A new journey begins!
For many months I have been stalking rescue groups and have applied for quite a few Dobermans with no success. Most had health or behaviour issues that made them unsuitable for my lifestyle and the few that would have been fine were in high demand and were homed elsewhere...
It is with the heaviest heart that I have to tell you that my wonderful Jazz left this world 16th April 2025. She injured her neck over a month ago and many vet visits and a lot of medication later it was clear that the damage wasn't going to repair itself and the medications couldn't cope with...
I have noticed that Jazz will act protectively when suspect off leash dogs approach us. Most dogs are ok but when she sees a dogs behaviour as "off" or there are two dogs approaching like bulldozers she gets defensive.
For instance this morning we were doing our usual off leash walk and a...
Last night was very exciting out here in the bush. We had a car chase that ended up with an abandoned car and a person of interest fleeing on foot! There were police in attendance and lots of lights as they searched.
Jazz was on it with her serious bark, much hackles and throaty growling. At...
Something that I suspected might happen, and is happening in Australia, is that after everyone went nuts and bought any Doberman or Doberman mix at nearly any price during the early days of the Covid pandemic there now seems to be many more Dobes than suitable Dobe owners. And there are still...
Not just any tooth, but the beautiful big premolar in her upper jaw. She had obviously sheered it at some stage and it was in the process of dying.
I suspect it was when we were on holiday and the butcher was cutting her marrow bones lengthwise rather than into short segments like we usually...
About a year ago Jazz started having sudden pain in her right hind leg. It started as a yelp when sudden turning at speed and then progressed to really grabbing her when she jumps long and low. It is obviously really painful as she comes to me shaking and holding that leg up and out from her...
This is hilarious on many levels! The JRs bouncing around in the starting boxes, and that Dobe who is REALLY keen on finding the furry critter. A bit long but worth watching to the end!
Have any of you heard of a Turkish Pointer? Rare and found only in Turkey and it has a really weird double nose! Turns out there are a couple of other rare breeds with this as well, but I could only find one good youtube clip and that features the Turkish Pointer.
Funny stuff you find floating...
A topic just for fun and thought! :)
We all know that a dog is a dog with all the doggie instincts and reactions, but have you noticed how many of our dogs have similar behaviours in day to day life as we do? Especially those with some Doberman DNA! (that's my Doberman bias showing)
A few...
Happy New Year! :beer::beer::beer:
Does any one remember school photo day where you had to be all neat and tidy in uniform and wear a TIE, then smiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile for the camera?
Just thought it might be fun to have a photo thread showing our dogs having heaps of fun, just being dogs! Anything goes here!
Reckon there's a heap of happy moment dog pics out there!
Recently I have been traveling and stayed at a dog friendly B&B where the owner had a lot of experience of dog training, especially boxers. We had some good chats and since she has sent some short video clips of tricks she taught her dogs and how she did it.
Now Jazz has plenty of intelligence...
I saw a very interesting documentary a couple of days ago where they were investigating what makes dogs such good domestic companions.
One of the things they did was to train dogs to lie quietly in a MRI scanner while awake. They were shown one toy that was always followed by a food reward...
After nearly a year Jazz finally sees Proserpine again. And they take up where they left off. Yippee, fun!
Wanna run?
Hey Pross, bet you can't do this?!!!
Eeeeek. Evil Red Cattle Dog!
Ready, steady...........................................................
TAG - you're IT!
Little red...
I've been wanting to ask this for a while as there is a breeder in Australia who professes to be breeding them.
The only picture is of a pup of 8 - 9 wks old, and yes the tail is shorter, but not as short as the normal docked tail. It doesn't appeal to me as it's neither one thing or another...
All the things I had planned for her birthday yesterday went out the window when the rain set in at daybreak and kept it up until early afternoon. But the mud and rain was probably a better birthday present for my girl anyway! Perfect dog day. :)
Working hard at water diversion...
Well, it had to happen sooner or later! Jazz has had to have an enforced rest and I dreaded dealing with this. I expected all sorts of mayhem and difficulties but she has proved very tolerant!
Backstory is that she fell while playing with the flirt pole. Not sure if she hurt herself when she...
I am needing to replace Jazzies large red ball. She absolutely loves it but it is hard plastic and has been scuffed up on our rough ground so that it rubs her nose raw very quickly. I know that some of you have the ones made of hard rubber but I am having a hard time finding what I am looking...
Well I have decided to post this in the health section as it could be of interest for those whose Dobes have their tails.
Backstory. As mentioned in my other thread Jazz has a problem with her tail. It showed up about 10 days ago as a small hairless mark two thirds of the way to the end of her...
