Early Neuro Stimulation (aka Biosensor) and Early Scent Identification

For temperament and personality I think it's important. Not being a breeder I'm not sure about how this would be applied to show prospects. Generally you submit your puppy application and describe your lifestyle and your intentions and goals for your new puppy. The difference in puppies in one...

If I was a breeder...looking for working lines

I've been behind on leisure time and will go back to the many references, video links etc to read/watch before I can comment on them. Appreciate the lively conversations.

If I was a breeder...looking for working lines

Most excellent article, thank you for the link. Appears to be an older article, but I couldn't find a date on it.

    Skin problem - systemic?

I think @Rits can tell you more details, but I believe a thyroid on the overall blood test can present in the normal range, but if you suspect thyroid problems you must have a specific thyroid test which measures multiple ranges of thyroid function...

Definitions of training terms: Drive and Threshold

@BGpa - Both very good articles to explain differences in terms and behaviors! Thanks for sharing these. My favorite book on the subject. All well said, @MikeP I also am firmly in the camp of genetic traits and Volhards views and tests are very insightful. You can train and change so much...

    FastCat

Generally it's just prey drive - something moves, go chase it. Asha's first run was a total bomb because I was on the catch end and had left her with J to release. She'd never been in a new place in her life without me holding the leash and she ran down the field looking for me. I was calling...

    Venues, a good explanation

Informative descriptions. I've heard that many ethical breeders disregard any IABCA titles because almost anyone can get their title in a weekend. 🤷‍♀️ I don't know for a fact, one of those "I heard" things. But for owners wanting to have fun and get experience and some education at the same...

Early Neuro Stimulation (aka Biosensor) and Early Scent Identification

I think many breeders do early introductions to stimulation. @Rits - I know would have more hands-on information on this. I don't know how much good it does, but I can't think of a downside. It's the same as human babies having all these colorful mobiles hanging over the crib to encourage the...

Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

We have this giant Ponderosa tree that died. The ravens and the vultures take turns using it as a roost. Vultures for the most part rarely kill anything, they just clean up the dead things. There were 10 I counted in that closer photo, J & I were looking at them and saying "Not yet! Not yet!" LOL.

Form vs Function in the working dog

When I open these conversations up I am not saying ALL or EVERY. I simply state what I'm seeing. I'm seeing that the more a dog is bred for show, the less likely it is to be a top athlete of any sport. Again, refer to the photos on page 1. I'm referring to all working breeds. And I'm not saying...

anyone use an alternative to the Cone after neuter?

I'm hoping this nightmare is almost over for you & your pup. Regular vet wanted $800 for a neuter? are you serious? :pullhair:

Anyone experience strange reactions to Gabapentin???

I cannot understand the vet world these days! I know I'm old and that means old-fashioned, but working as a vet tech in the 1980's we never gave pain meds at all for spay or neuters. I did a quick search and found you are not alone! I know that doesn't help the problem but just a quick read...

Form vs Function in the working dog

I love a dog with a purpose. If conformation is simply about looks, that's fine too. I understand the standard can be achieved with different "styles" of Dobermans and I'm OK with that. What I have seen is where the standard IS exaggerated and abused and still get picked by judges which in turn...

Very similar to my Doberman experience! I was indeed humbled by the challenge of Asha in my life.

Form vs Function in the working dog

I read many things on that website years ago, I'll have to re-read this one to refresh my memory - thanks for bringing it up. The look of champions over the years. Like the other working breed comparisons from my original opening post, it seems as if many show lines are trending heavier and...

    Majors - fun question

    FastCat

How exciting!!! Keep us posted on his stats when he's closing in on his DCAT! I think they all do if they love the game! Reckless doesn't bark, she comes up the leash and bites because she gets mad I'm holding her back! Asha doesn't squeal or scream she just barks non-stop until she's released. 😅

    Borrowed Kindness

Are we talking UKC or UDC events? UDC is the United Doberman Club - Doberman club with focus on working and sporting Dobermans plus conformation and temperament UKC is the United Kennel Club - All breed club with conformation and sports events, very similar to AKC. Jans opening post is...
