Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

I assume you're going to try to keep Bonnie out of there until they fledge?
Yes. I dont let her chase birds or interfere in nests, etc. That humming bird nest at about waist height a year ago she was curious about but listened well to "leave it" and ignored it. Sadly, coyotes or raptors got it, as it was in a vulnerable spot.

But I encourage Bonnies interest, inc on trail, where she is nose to ground tracking or air scent following ...we were hiking in a favorite spot with lots of sniffies including coyote scat everywhere and she was hackles up activated at one point, woofing ready to dive in the bushes...most likely a camper, or coyotes...
But she listened to the recall, without the zap.

She is confident enough to route find down game trails so sometimes I indulge her and indicate go ahead, when she checks in, and follow her lead..

other times I indicate another way and she follows that guidance promptly, too.

Turning out to be a great trail dog.

Or perhaps a grey ratsnake. Those markings are pretty typical of ratsnakes, and the head is the same. I've had several ratsnakes, and the head is a bit different from a watersnake.
Ya, it was fuzzy and almost looking like it just shed, so I was going by the triangular head, typical pit viper givesway.
I have been assured by a much more than I snake savy person that it's northern water snake. Also known as a common water snake. Admittedly I just know enough to avoid areas they like to hang out. But looking at pics I'm satisfied with that answer.

Well, a couple of days ago I happen to see another Wren going into the original house that I had for them! This was the only one I had for a while and they used it all the time. Then I got the little brown one from a friend of mine and when I put them both out, it seemed they preferred the wooden one. Last couple of years I don't think there was even anybody in the white one. But now I see somebody who looks like they're building a nest. Seems a little late in the year but I know the Wren in the other one has been feeding babies in their house. I've seen her come in and out with food in her mouth. So it looks like two different families! That's great. I'm happy they're using them both!

Not exactly my area...a few miles north.
70# black bear- thats about the size of a dobe...

I'd probly "be that guy" mixing it up if another animal was chewing on my family too, going berserker.

Keep something more lethal than a hatchet handy tho...

We have black bears visit, mostly just passing through and just stop at the pond for a drink. Kind of a pain because that usually take out some part of the fence. Riley and I walk the perimeter randomly and after storms to make sure the fence is not down.
The original property we bought was just 5 acres and fenced. We have since bought as much of the surrounding property that we could. Not sure if we will ever fence the whole thing.

Boy, black bears usually don't attack unless they have cubs or are sick. Maybe those dogs drove it over the edge though.
That one being a juvenile may have been threatened, or unwell. Maybe rabies...
Always avoid mammals acting unnatural, is my rule.

Around here the only vector recorded is bars, so "dont mess with one of those laying on the floor" of the barn is what the kids riding horses were told.
