This appeared about yesterday morning and all if the sudden on Flint. I've got theories that it's a hematoma, because Flint is an absolute chaos gremlin and is convinced he can bulldoze anything.

Sometimes he rolls off the couch and hits our coffee table. The other day he was chasing the ball and it rolled under our shed and he dove in after it at mach 10. He may have clipped his shoulders on the underside of the shed, I'm not sure. But the fact that it appeared basically over night makes me think it's not cancer.

He will go to the vet tomorrow. But does anyone else have any insight as to what it might be? It feels like it might be full of fluid. His behavior and eating and drinking is normal. He doesn't shy away when I touch it either but Flint has proven to me that just because he is in pain doesn't mean he shows it very easy.

I also wonder if running him too hard could cause this somehow? He's been very energetic with the change of the season lately.

Update: I took him to the vet on Monday and the vet did a fine needle aspiration on it. It was full of clear fluid but it wasn't pus. The vet said that it was a sebaceous... something (lol) and that it wasn't a big deal. It should go away in its own in a few weeks. It's caused by trauma, which I suspected was how Flint got it.

That dog tests to see if objects are as solid as they look going mach 10 sometimes, especially if they're between him and his ball.

That's a relief, but sounds as if it won't be the first swollen lump! The do believe they are indestructable :woot2:

Good news! Moose had something similar but much smaller and harder to see with his thick fur (it was felt more than seen). They went to aspirate it and it essentially just emptied itself; same clear type fluid and nothing of concern. PHEW!

That sounds like a reasonable explanation. Sounds like these guys are a glutton for punishment!

When we go out to the barn to get the horses especially during the winter, I keep the overhead doors closed. When I'm ready to go get the horses and I hit the button for the door to go up, Annie will scrouch down and try and squeeze under the door as it's going up! Afraid that one day she will hurt her withers area or shoulders, I finally had to teach her, WAIT. I use that command for a few other things so she knows what it means and now will at least wait for the door to open high enough for her to go under. But they're in such a rush! Like your dog diving under the shed.

Let us know how he's doing in a few days!
