Another vet visit with not so great news.

Oh sweet Buddy!! I was just thinking of you guys too- I havent been stalking for photos lately, but I still can clearly picture his sweet, soulful eyes.... his eyes have always hit me right in the feels!! Little (big?) stinker, mama needs you in the car to help make you feel better, Bud!! Oh gosh, I can't imagine trying to get Mischa in the truck by myself, and she's only 75 lbs!! Great job problem solving. That bedding was a great idea!! Sending prayers, and will be keeping an eye out for updates! I have nothing else to add that hasn't already been said lol, so I won't echo the others on food and pumpkin lol. Sending love to you!!

My thoughts are with you all. Buddy holds a special place in all our hearts, it saddens me to think he’s going through this :(
I’m praying that the medication gives him some relief.

How is Buddy today?
Funny you should ask. I just was coming here to post. I'm outside as we speak walking the dogs and twice Buddy squatted and looked like he was going to take a nice dump LOL I was anxious to see how formed it was when only a few drips of liquid came out. :wideyed: Dear God, is he constipated now? Going to dig in my cabinet for the pumpkin!

Getting him to eat has been a problem. I think he's getting enough with a lot of coaxing. And actually maybe he's constipated with the raw chicken? I've given him that before even though he is not on a raw diet. But he is getting a little bit more than normal now because I stick his pills in there and he takes them like a champ. Used to be I can give a piece of cheese and a pill and he would swallow it right down barely chewing. But he's being a stinker. Raw chicken on the other hand has been a winner. I suppose I should switch off to hamburger or something? Not being a raw feeder I did not sure how to balance the ACT! I assume he won't be on all these pills forever. Just the heart ones. The pain pill, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory will just be for the duration of the pills.

We found vetmedin played havoc with kings stomach its very hard on their poor tummy, is he eating and drinking anything, have found giving King his vetmedin first thing in the morning then food one hour later then second dose twelve hours later leaving exleast two hours from any food and then if he is hungry leave for a minimum of one hour after medication.

One little trick for food we put a small amount off cod liver oil on Kings food and mixed it in suddenly that food he didn't want was the best ever only use a small amount if you try it.

Yay!

Already sent a picture to my husband to pick up more. This morning I gave him one cup of his kibble of course he turned his nose up at it. I added a raw egg and he ate some of it. Maybe half along with the egg. I have to give him his pills now so he'll be getting some chicken and whatever else I can conjure up. Just don't know if he's getting a balanced meal. I did try putting his kibble, and egg, his vitamins, my zucchini mixture from the garden, into the food processor. He ate some of it but the rest I had to practically hand feed him.

I tried the sardines which is usually his favorite! But even that didn't coax him to gobble it down. The funny thing is, it was the night after our vet visit when he kind of stopped eating even his dinner. That was before any of the pills were even given. I suppose it could be the mouth issue. Probably now a combination of everything. :(

Its hard when they don't want to eat anything I know it really worried me you may find Buddy is feeling uncomfortable with the fluid retention in his tummy it will take a bit off time for that to ease we did have a spell of eight days with King in the beginning when all he would eat was gravey bones sod all goodness in then but was just relieved he ate something. 20201109_142621.webp

Well I've given coconut oil. He usually likes that but I don't think that would coax him to eat it all. Maybe I'll try heating it a little to liquidify it and mixing it in. Now that it's cooler out it's turned into a solid. Usually he would lick that up even as a solid. But liquifying it may coat all the kibble a little better. I have added water to make it softer but even that doesn't seem to interest him.

And interestingly enough, it was the Enalapril that shows on my paperwork to give on an empty stomach. My vet did not give me a description on every one of the pills. Only Enalapril and Fuosemide.

If you haven't the information leaflet with the vetmedin you can check it on the Internet but was strongly pointed out by the vet and on the information leaflet with it should only be given on a totally empty stomach otherwise diminished the effectiveness off the drug, you may find the antibiotic can cause constipation.

I am heartbroken for you. Buddy’s story that you shared when you first got him at the airport has stuck with me. I had so many visuals of you trying to catch him.

What a beautiful life he is living. Keep strong and know he is in my heart and mind and I am full of prayers for him!

If he's still eating kibble, I wouldn't worry too much about a balanced diet with the addition of raw chicken. The chicken is like a snack not his main meal. The nice thing about the pills in the chicken piece is that chicken is slippery enough to just go down easy. My concern with hamburger/ground beef is that the amount of fat is unknown and that could give him diarrhea. If you're looking at going towards a complete raw diet, then the balance is achieved by including bone and organs. Usually if I give Kaiser just muscle meat (like the raw chicken), it will loosen his stool a bit. The bone is necessary for keeping a solid stool. With his mouth situation, I would only give him ground raw meals so he doesn't have to bite down on anything. If you don't want to be grinding the meals yourself, you can also buy premade/pre-ground raw that comes properly balanced.

Thanks Bri, but you have Buddy mixed up with someone else. I didn't pick him up at the airport! lol I picked him up at the breeders home. It's been a lot of years and a lot of puppers here on the board! Easy to get confused. :thumbsup2:;) Thank you for your well wishes!

Thanks for that! I am getting some kibble down so you are probably spot on! And I think the chicken helps a lot! AND the pumpkin! He actually took a spoonful of pumpkin WITH a heart pill (Which is like a horse pill!) and ate it right down!  Still waiting to see a BM. And, omg, he's been having some whoppers of smelly gas! :green::green::green: Even before the vet visit! Once a week my daughter in law is coming by and I am teaching her my end of the business. Of course, Buddy has to be in my office with us since he is ALWAYS with me and....omg....we have been overwhelmed. :green: :bag: *cough*

Omg, I am so sorry. All these years I thought it was Buddy. The poster said she got her dobe at 7mos and then the scenario occurred that I posted.
I feel very foolish right now.
Either way, I still love Buddy and looking at all of his and Kali’s fun active photos.
