How To Choose The Best Raw Food

I tried to watch this in my lunch break earlier but there’s soooo much to take in. Very interesting though!
Oh, wouldn’t it be awesome to be at SuperZoo this month?! Mind you, traveling half way round the world would be a bit much Lol

Great people doing great things!

Yes we usually go to SuperZoo every year. But this time we have a litter of puppies to watch! We are friends with Dr. Becker also Rodney Habib. Billy Hokeman is very very knowledgeable! We watch his videos on Answers Pet Foods FB page.
Dr. Becker and Rodney have some very good videos also.

My daughters boss ( from the Natural Pet pantry) met both at the Natural Canine Care Convention in Glasgow, last year. She’s wants to take my daughter on a conference/seminar if/when they are in the UK next. I’ve asked to tag along :thumbsup2:

The lady In the purple jacket is from Leucillin. The skin care specialists. I’m never short of this stuff, it’s AMAZING! It tackles infection, flakey smelly skin, irritation and even dry and itchy skin.

Probably go next year to SuperZoo or Global Pet Show in Orlando!

Where we like to go is Interzoo in Nuremberg, Germany. Its every 2yrs.

Hey guys was wondering what age to feed a raw diet?
You can feed a raw diet when they are puppies.
So for example a puppy of about 10 weeks is fed between 7.5 and 8.5% of their body weight, and the percentage reduces as they grow.
This is a great guide..

Can start weaning them at 7-8 weeks old with Goats milk and a 90% ground beef. Making a gruel out of it. The 90% lean which does not have a lot of fat in it. But I have never done it.

Our female we got at 12 weeks we started her on Honest Kitchen dehydrated raw and Primal freeze dried raw. Both are very easy just add warm water. Then we switched to a totally coarse ground raw at around 11-12mo old. Which had Organs and ground bone in it.

Some very good Raw Feeding sites on FB.

I know my local butcher and he has frozen portions of beef liver and hearts made for dogs. I’m thinking of combining this with a dry diet. I’ve done this with my old English bulldogs and have had success. I just never have attempted it with a Doberman.

Just something to take into account, the reason I don’t like mixing raw and processed isn’t to do with the digestion rate, (still a concern) it’s more the concern of the stomach pH.
Kibble largely contains plant based materials (grains, potatoes, peas...) and less animal protein. Kibble fed dogs generally have a stomach pH of about (4-5) low acid whereas raw fed dogs it’s around 1-2 (highly acidic) This higher acidity allows the stomach to break down and digest bone and helps kill the pathogens in raw meat. I think a mixed diet is confusing to the gut and throws it out of whack. Also, with a change in pH comes a change in gut flora. So by continually adding highly processed foods and plant matter to the diet you maybe feeding the gut flora that is specific to those good items rather than ones preferable to a raw meat diet, preventing the ones you would want to flourish to take hold.

Wow! You seem to really know your stuff so if had to do a dry food would one with few ingredients work. Or could i just offer raw as a separate meal once a day.

I’ve a newbie Raw feeder but trust me, I’ve done tons and tons of homework. I’m learning daily, though the help of this wonderful forum, books and raw feeding FB groups.
IMO, if you are going to feed raw then do all meals as raw. No kibble in the morning and raw evening, no mixing both in the same bowl. It’s either kibble OR raw feeding.

What you feed and how you feed your dog is your business. Everyone does the best they can, with whatever means they have, but I think it’s important for people to know the facts, so they can make an informed decision.

Love these guys! Thankfully our breeder was already doing half kibble half raw, and DeSoto hated the kibble lol! We started him off on day one with Answers Detailed, and he LOVED it. I’d meal prepped two and a half weeks’ worth of DIY BARF-style raw after months of research via Dr. Becker, Rodney Habib, and Ronny LeJeune from Perfectly Rawsome. Was so worried about how he’d handle whole foods, but its his favorite thing ever!
