Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

I didn't get a photo, but yesterday around 5pm I brought Red on a little hike a couple towns over. He usually runs about 20-30ft ahead and waits. Well we went through a little clearing, him in the lead, and I yelled ahead for him to wait. I then heard a sound to my left and when I turned I saw a white tail doe about 20ft from me run off. I was so glad Red didn't see her and decide that they should be best friends

Yesterday afternoon I was working in my garden I can hear my little Wren chattering about, wildly and continuously. Not singing, but making all kinds of chatter. I thought maybe she had a baby on the ground and she was worried about me. I went about my business until I finally was conscious of her again and looked over to see a robin on the ground in the grass. As I was looking at the robin, I can see a snake going up the tree behind her! I know there's a robin's nest up in that tree! I finally realized that that was what the Wren was squawking about! I jumped in my golf cart and flew back to my barn to get my snake grabber!

When I came back, he was going up the back of the tree with the rest of his body still on the ground. He couldn't see me so I easily got a hold of him with my tool! He was not amused! I carried him all the way over to the other side of my property and tossed him into the woods. And stay there! Lol I wish I had time for a picture, but my hands were full. :) I just didn't want him to get into that nest. I don't know if he could have made it all the way up that tree trunk or not but I wasn't going to wait around and watch. :)

I can handle pretty much everything but not snakes. You are nicer than me because honestly if I could find the courage to get near it it wouldn't still be alive

Yeah they don't really scare me. I mean, I don't want one to bite me and I am cautious. And most around here are not poisonous and are kind of interesting to me. :) I usually leave them alone unless they are getting into trouble by trying to get into my horse barn or too close to the house. Then all I do is move them further away. :)

I've been mowing for hours trying to beat the rain that's moving our way. When I was washing down my lawn mower, my neighbor was walking by with her dog. While we were talking I saw something small, dark and slow moving out of the corner of my eye. Curiosity killed the cat, you know. ;) I always have to investigate! I ran over and found a painted turtle! He was so cute. I yelled to my neighbor that it was a turtle. She said, man you got good eyes! I said, I seem to always be able to catch things that are moving. I don't know why. :p

He actually does not look amused!:p

Today was the day for Critters!

First it was the barn swallows. I mowed for hours today and many times the barn swallows would be swooping down in front of me, behind me and alongside of me, trying to get the bugs that the mower made jump in the air. Several times I saw a barn swallow catch a bug in mid swoop! It's hard to videotape and mow a zero turn mower at the same time so I had to stop. But I sure wish I could have somebody video how they follow me along. It's pretty funny!

Then I was mowing around some of the Evergreens when a rabbit jumped out! They are so funny because they usually stand still for a long time letting you get pretty close. Even with a lawn mower running!

I zoomed in a little here.

Then there was a white crane I was in the flooded field! He was actually fishing in the there!

And another spot that was flooded there was about 5 turkey vultures! They are hard to see, even if you zoom in. I should have taken a closer pic but they were looking at me suspiciously and I thought they were going to take off.

And of course then there was the turtle above. All friendly critters!

No filters, the flash reflected off the body.
Neat shot! I got a good one like that too once, where it reflected off the whole web. :thumbsup2:

Yesterday I went into town and, don't you hate when you pass by something, only to realize too late what it was? I drove past a turtle that look like he was trying to cross the road! My heart sank as I realized what it was. The car behind me missed it but I so wanted to go back and help! I felt like he was doomed. Hopefully he made it. That's all I can think about. There was no place to stop and turn around or even pull over. Stuff like that just kills me.:(

One of my coworkers said he stopped to help a turtle across a road the other day so he's on my good list. ;)

This was right down the road from here the other day, taken by a friend going by. Everyone says they've been seeing them by us, except us. LOL

Damn I just missed a great photo! I'm sitting on the deck after walking the dogs and letting them dry off a little when Kali let out a little bark. I went to the front of the deck to see what she was looking at and all the way in the back of the property was a mother deer with twins! Seeing the directions they were walking, they could have just come out of our Woods. I would have had a great shot! With my cell phone not a gun!

Yesterday I was walking back to the house when I spotted a snake in the hostas by the barn. Another Hognose. They are interesting because even though they put up a little fight by hissing and striking, they will eventually play dead! The first one I had to move away from the house, I thought I killed it! I thought I squeezed it too hard or something. I felt so bad! But when he "came back to life ", I knew I'd been had! :tap:

Later, when I was out with the dogs, my little hunter, Kali, knew something was there! She has a great nose.

Snakes.... no. Some are good eating but I abhor snakes.

I'm sure you are not alone! :) But they don't bother me in the least. We don't have a whole lot of poisonous ones. So I don't have to worry about that. And I find them quite interesting. I just need to move them when they are too close to the house or my animals.

Where I grew up, I had the conglomeration of all the nastiest venomous ones in Texas very near the house.

Had western diamondbacks, copperheads, cottonmouths, and coral snakes. Probably had the timber rattlesnake too but never personally saw one.

Our son and his family just took a vacation to Kentucky, Tennessee and even into a little of South Carolina. When he sent me this video, I about fell on the floor! Lol.

They were coming back from a hike and about 40 people in the parking lot were shouting, "Mama Bear ahead of you!"

He said he saw the weeds moving, so he picked up his youngest and they backed up. Then they saw the bear! Really kind of cute if it wasn't so scary. But obviously she was used to people.

My son was so funny. He said, "If that was grizzly, I'd be dead, but if not, Ida shit myself."

And he's probably right! I think I've watched that video about 20 times. :) I love their reactions!

I love watching the swallows in our pastures. They are such incredible aviators. And I appreciate their mosquito eating abilities :).
Me too! I was just taking some video of them yesterday. There were like Fifty of them! Flying and darting all by the barn. Making all kinds of noise.
