My experience with this women genuinely hurt me and I will not be forgetting it.
Jack, my rescued 6 month beast of a baby, is developing well for being in my house only a week and a weekend. When we got him, all he really knew how to do was go on walks, tricks for treats, and hes been stuck with separation anxiety from being raised in an apartment by an unprepared couple his whole life. I spend all day at home so I have a set routine, wake up, walk him until he is a little tired, breakfast, play with him for 45 minutes up to an hour and some change depending on our day. Then I go inside and give him the bedded garage and our huge backyard. I leave him alone for spans of short time, revisiting the garage frequently without making it a big deal. I'm well invested in Jack and his feelings but I also know not to coddle him if I want him to realize I'm not leaving forever and theres a lot of fun to be had when I go away between his toys and my acre of lawn. I arepeat the original process of a long walk, playtime, and then eat twice later once in the afternoon and once at night since he seems skinny and hyperactive. He likes this. This schedule has calmed him down and he smiles really big a lot now.
It was impossible to leave him alone the first 2 nights, but now he will lay down in his bed and use his toys as well as his eating pattern has become regular.
He still (understandably) is suffering from anxiety and impulse control and just little things that I can't identify a source for. He did in fact aggressively bite me 2 times, the only times he ever has and I do not blame or hold it against him- what i dont get is that the two times were 1 when he chilling in bed and I was picking up some things around the garage for no apparent reason. It did NOT look like he was searching for a toy and he already ate maybe 15 minutes previous. It looked like at the last minute he decided not to tear open my hand. His teeth did lock down though and I would have definitely needed stitches.
The second time, I was trying to sleep and he walked up to my face and I felt the air move so I jumped inches away from his very sharp very dangerous teeth going straight for my facial features. After that I turned off the light and went immediately inside to show him it was wrong.
Because of this, my dad and sister came to me and basically wanted a trainer to come to the house asap. I didn't see an issue with it. I'm an optimist. I thought sure i could use some help establishing more confidence and control in Jack.
Well...a woman named Wendy was chosen by them and they said she worked with cesar milan and showed me pictures and good reviews. She showed up yesterday and ruined my family and house life and sent me, the human not the dog, into an uncontrollable panic attack/fit of rage.
This Wendy (I'm from Corona/Riverside in Cali) walked into my house and when I brought Jack in and sat down with him: Immediately I was put off. She began talking over me to my father, about how Jack interacts with him...knowing I am the only one who does anything with him. When I say talking over I mean, I couldn't talk. I opened my mouth to interject 3 times because my dad was telling her all these things having to do with Jacks training that were wrong. Incorrect. He doesnt need help with this, he listens to me, blah blah blah...when my BIGGEST issue is my dad has no control over Jack.
At one point Wendy turned and looked me in the eye and said "How can you be so disrespectful?"
I thought I was being punked. This 70 year old lady is being paid over a hundred dollars for one visit. She sits down. Talks over me for 20 minutes. I give up and directly ask them to stop doing it, and she says IM DISRESPECTFUL?!
Next I kept my calm. I didn't wanna be the unruly overprotective jackass dog owner. So i kept a watchful eye and let her continue.
When she began talking to me...she contradicted herself. She asked me whats going on, and I explained that though we would like him in the house with us free- his world before us had been so confined and small that he has anxiety attacks and jumps on our old dogs back and chases our cats and then defecates in that order and physically can not relax in the open me. Not his fault.
She tells me "Just let him in. Teach him manners."
My mind was doing backflips. The extremely expensive trainer just told ne to teach him manners.
While I was sitting there reeling- she then began trying to teach Jack sit. Pushing his butt down and using treats. I kept trying to tell her that this is all his old owners would do to bond with him and he has sit down to a T. She would not even look at me. Only to yell that I am talking over HER.
Basically the longer the sess went on, the crazier things got. I couldnt do much because my family paid for her and my dad was seemingly enjoying the way she was talking to me. As screwed up as that is; it appeared that being the center of attention and hearing someone tell me I'm wrong overrode my dads sense of whats right is wrong.
From there, she made me take Jack off his leash, only to talk to my dad while he began ripping the cat bowl thats screwed down...out. I got up to whistle and call him away, and she (still ignoring the dog) tells me I am not "firm enough" before I even get to his name. And "do not follow through." Which is bullshit, I was about to brawl this old lady right there.
Eventually I realized that no matter what I did in this room with these two people, itwould be shot down.
The shocker came when Jack began teething my open skin HARD, I pressed my index finger to his snout with a direct No and eye contact.
But before Jack could respond, I shit you not, WENDY got in my face. Kissing distance. And screamed at me SCREAMED with a pointed finger "YOURE HURTING HIM YOURE HURTING HIM YOURE HURTING HIM."
what the censored
I've seen trainers do the exact move I was doing. Hurting him? What? Index finger, press the side of his snout, and no. Its simple and it works and it in no way is harmful. WHAT.
I thought to myself ' over a hundred dollars, and you are screaming at me, trying to teach my rescue the most basic dog movie, disrespecting me, ignoring ny dog and myself for my dad.'
After that I left. I took Jack for a walk. I didn't say a word. I stood up, leashed Jack and slammed the door behind me without looking back.
By the time he and I returned from our walk, his food and water bowl were gone. I yell for my dad, and WENDY responds "oh its over here." Like instead of my dad? I'm like.....you barely avoided a punch. I'm about to chase her from my home like I am the attack dog.
I then let Jack loose in my backyard and try to ignore her and go back to what i was training him like because yesterday he was doing great.
I hear WENDY inside. Telling my dad. For 20 more minutes. That he needs to take ME seriously, and that all I do is FORCE Jack and thats why he has every issue i brought up.
Then Wendy and my dad, take Jack away from me, kick me from the house, and spend FOUR HOURS walking him and trying to teach him sit and down. Which he already knows.
She leaves and I come in, freezing from the yard, hungry, HURT, and tired. And Jack is freaking out. He is ripping the couch up. Something he has known not to do since we got him. I get him off that madness, and he has an accident right there. And he bites my sister.
All within 10 minutes from her leaving. She also sold my dad two freaking hemp leashes from her car when we already have two working way better ones.
My dad went to his room and hasn't brought it up since. Its the next day and he hasnt gone and seen Jack since she left. He let this strange old lady scream at me and tell me I am a horrible dog owner, they both took my baby, overworked him and confused him for four hours, then gave him back and left like nothing.
If you are within my area and you see this women, do not hire her. While I was locked outside, I googled her and it said she makes other kids cry often and her only satisfied customers are older. I feel sorry that they wasted my puppies day like that, and any training from now on will be all on my decisions. I don't know how the hell this old lady is still working. I am SHOOK.
