Royal Canin Hypoallergenic treats

so I took Rex to the vet today because he had a few bumps on his back legs and a scrape on his leg. I wanted to make sure the bumps were nothing (they were nothing) got a topical ointment. Anyways the vet I went to which is not my normal vet, just the vet I’ll go to for minor things since it’s a 5 minute drive compared to 45-60 minutes for my normal vet.

Anyways, this vet likes to give out treats like it’s halloween. I kept telling the vet techs not to give him any, but the vet insisted he gets a treat for interacting with him. I didn’t want to argue, so I let him have one treat, the treat was this Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Hydrolyzed Protein Canine Dog Treats, 1.1-lb bag

Fast forward to 3 hours later, after I fed him dinner he went out for his after meal poop then proceeded to have diarrhea -__- the color of the diarrhea matched the color of the treats. I only give him raw and dehydrated raw for treats and he never gets anything processed so that may be it.

I have no real point to this post other than to share what happened and complain. I can’t believe people give that stuff to their animals.

Funny you mention Royal Canin. I just posted on another thread how someone on FB was trying to convince me to switch to Royal Canin kibble for heart health and how she’s done all this researchand talked to 3 different vets and then linked me to the UC Davis study. So I politely attached links to thetruthaboutpetfoods and the dogfoodadvisor reviews about RC - she wanted to hear none of it. The stuff some vets push is total garbage.

I hope that was all of it and your guy is not dealing with stomach upset tomorrow.

Haha, it’s crazy. The main vet I go to, supports my decision to feed my dog a raw diet. However he still believes that kibble is better but he doesn’t push it on me. However he is a firm “uc Davis study” believer. However, we don’t butt heads about it.

I’ve had several people be very militant about how “insert brand” of kibble is better than raw. And how raw will kill my dog lol.

This is the reason why when we take our guys anywhere we take some of their own treats with us. When people want to give them a treat we just say they are on a special diet. And then give them one of ours to give to them.

Ugh that’s like when I take Ares to home
Depot and they want to get him those nasty pupperoni treats. I don’t allow it anymore lol I got brave and lied lol
“He can’t he has food allergies, please don’t cuz it could kill him.” Ya they don’t ask or offer them anymore lol
Same excuse when I take the crew to petsmart lol
That would have certainly made me angry though I said no, why are you pushing me.

Thankfully his poops are back to normal. However, the vet is really pushy with treats, luckily he isn’t my main vet.
