The Valley of the Donkeys

@Kaiser2016 Ruby is 2 yrs 3 months tomorrow. All grown up and full of sass...for me!
Reason I ask about age is that I heard they become more protective around the age of 2 so maybe she will still become more aloof around strangers. There is a thread about temperament where someone asked about this so I'm waiting to hear whether there is some truth to that.

Being a male, he is probably going to start maturing quickly at 22 months. I wouldn't want him heavier than he is now. Take that FWIW, I tend to like a leaner dog. I would keep a close eye cause that weight goes on a lot easier that it comes off.
Totally agree. I think the shot of him just standing still in the creek, he actually looked fat in that one haha. We'll drop him down a patty to 4.

How much does a patty weigh? ... and what is the total weight patties & toppers?...(2 questions)
0.5 lbs for each patty.

Toppers are mint/spinach/tomato ice cubes. About 2 or 3 cubes daily.

And all those treats! But I think it's the fatty trout that caused the weight gain. The red meats feel less greasy on my finger tips when I handle the frozen patty.

I feed Grace 3lbs a day...red meat, chicken, fish as the bulk and bits of lamb and rabbit when available...over the course of the week Chicken is 70% Red meat 20% Fish 10%...

The toppers....veggies, fruits, etc are 2lbs per week...plus some homemade natural treats 1/2 lb per week

So she gets 3-4lbs of food per day...just for a comparison.

That seems like a lot but I guess real raw might be weighed different? See, I was feeding 2.5 lbs, because it seemed like all the boys here were eating more than that. Now we moved him back to 4 patties. Actually tomorrow I am just going to give 3 - It's Rally day so he'll get treats.

It also has to do with the activity level...just like humans...Grace is now stop...we're very active...

She actually goes to bed between 7-8 every night and wakes me a 7am....she worn out every day...if not through training, then it's just play and she won't stop. :banghead:... I can force her by command to lay down and she does and 10 minutes later the whining starts, then the licking, then the biting and then we're back at it...

Kaiser gets 2-3 hrs activity a day. Unless it's a hike, it's usually broken up activity. Lol, not sure why they are called cat naps because Dober naps are like an instant recharge whereas cats can sleep all day!

During the warmer weather now, I'll let her out in the fenced area and she goes on perimeter patrol for 15 minutes, then zoomies by herself getting all worked up and then she barks and and runs up and down the stairs waiting for me to come join in...talk about HYPERDOBE...the only rest I get is after feedings, she will sit with me for an hour while digesting...

Making noise to alert any wildlife is another form of defence, so occasional clapping is done if you don't want to wear a bell.
Hell, I'd be wearing the hunchback's Bell Tower Bell!
I would rather leave home naked...:thumbsup2:
But then there'd be no place to concealed carry!:p
Make sure to tell us about it :) I wish we could camp, but my hb doesn't get it lol. "Why would I choose to lay on the ground?" :spit:
Ugh, I'm with him there! Give me a nice hotel with a bathroom and shower anyday. Unless you've got a nice camper!? I'd go for a nice camper. Got a nice camper?? :yatta::yatta:LOL
My hubs always mentions that the twins don’t get excited to see him
Buddy came to us at 7 months old and was very shy. It was a whole new environment for him here and it took a lot of work getting him to open up to us. He seemed more fearful of men than women, as it seems with a lot of dogs. I finally had the bright idea of my husband feeding him and taking him out in the morning. I said, you need to be more involved with him so that he warms up to you. Well, that was the kicker. He and Buddy are usually the first ones up so he takes him out and feeds him breakfast. Then I get up and tend to Kali. It works out very well and he and Buddy are Good Buds now.
The bird looked like it had been shot down.
 It looked like a hawk! Ugh, that makes me sad. I love those birds. Why would someone shoot one? separate I love it comes birds. Why would someone shoot

I'm so glad they had a great bonding time and what a great place to do it! Love the photos and it looks like he was a good boy.

Our dogs (especially Della) will carry things like deer legs back to the house quite often. We used to fling them out in the woods but the fox keep bringing them back to the yard, so we had to start putting them up high until trash day so nothing could get them.
