I hope it's okay to enter Flynn's image..he's still in my heart and so I debated but wanted to use his photos..I thought we just might have a new pup but the entire group of puppies contracted herpes virus..Many died and others had very low birth rates..The surviving puppies are not out of the woods either as the exposure so young can cause health problems as adults! Heart and nervous system and just general ill health..Anyone thinking of breeding please be familiar with this horrible disease! Jan if this is not okay feel free to erase the post thanks.

Of course it's okay and that's an adorable photo!

I'm sorry to hear of the pups problems though. :(
Thanks Jan my big black cloud is still hanging on ....I was really set on these pups but it just wasn't to be. :( It may be that some of the pups will be fine but I can't risk it.

No probs!

Unfortunately, if you originally took the photo in portrait mode (rather than landscape) and we crop it you do lose the top and bottom of the pic, it's inevitable.

For example, this is Kobi in portrait...

So, the result....

I learnt my lesson from last years entries.....tilt your phone to landscape ;) that way, you don't need to crop!!!
If you crop it even closer though you could make it a head shot just leave enough neck to have balance..I do this quite a bit ..if you do it the right way it will make it look like a the crop was done with a purpose and not look like something was accidentally cut off. ;) Hmm I'll show you but I need the other computer to do it.

Yes, it would be good to see because I'm constantly cropping pics and it does look like I'm cutting it off.
Can you take my example of kobi as a puppy and crop it to a head shot so I can see? When you can :)

I'm sending you a message about the pups now :( I'm so sorry!

*EDIT* like this?

Same amount of neck to head? Or more neck? Lol
You are my wonderful teacher, MH;)

That's it ya got it ...beauty is in the eye of the beholder..I might take it down and show a bit more body but you totally have the idea..it's great fun to play with cropping ..come in really close and zoom out..it's really all up to what look you want to achieve ..skies the limit with your photos!:2cents Almost forgot to mention that the photo is just a bit too dark ..if you have the capability you might want to brighten it just a bit too. ..Black dogs are really one of the hardest things to photograph. Many times to get the exposure just right for the dog you have to overexpose ..backgrounds etc. ..but if your main focus is on the dog ..then expose for the dog...many times you split the difference a bit.

This is a good point and for whatever reason the company who makes the calendars prints them out a little darker than they are too so I lighten quite a few of them up a little before uploading them for the calendar.

Oh geez! Brucellosis is nothing to shake a stick at. All reputable breeders test for it prior to breeding as it causes fading puppy syndrome. Scary stuff
