Ticks!

Just looked up
Trifexis kills fleas and prevents flea infestations, treats and controls hookworms, whipworms and roundworms, and prevents heartworm disease
Doesn't seem to be a tick treatment

Darn it ! Lol I'll stick with vectra then hahaha thank you for posting that !!! Glad I didn't switch !

That's where I was looking but it jumps from size 0 to 4. It isn't showing a size 1,2, or 3. Maybe just out of stock.
Oh no :( I hope they get more in !!! I saw those and bought the ones I needed asap cuz I thought it was important :( I'm sure they will get more. I think but not 100 % if you spray yourself and him down with Apple cider vinegar that it could help repel.

Man, I just realized that we will have to actually look into flea and tick prevention this year since we plan on taking Doctor hiking. We have never had to worry about it before with either dog unless we took them to my family's (and after one trip that didn't happen again!).

No tick problems here and last year we had no flea issues, thank GOD. That drives me nutty! When we lived in Fl the sand fleas and the ticks were unbelievable. My son's nickname at one time was "cowboy tick" cause he would go play outside and there always seemed to be one on him. So glad we don't have to deal with that anymore!!

We've had our dogs on Nexgard for a couple years and really like it. We used to pull tons of ticks off them every day but we almost never find any after putting them on the Nexgard. I know it's not supposed to be a repellent but it does seem to repel them.
I think spotting ticks on them is really easy and we usually find them all visually. I do give them a good all over rub too after they've been out for a run.
You can see this is very easy to spot at a glance.

As for keeping them off yourself it's best to tuck your pants into boots and use some sort of natural repellent. I don't use repellents but tucking the pants in helps a lot.

Tick season is here already!
I haven't seen any around here but they were just saying on the radio that they're pretty thick in the Duluth area. I better get to the vet for some Nexgard soon since I only have one dose for the dogs sitting here right now.

One of my key reasons for liking Dobermans is their short coat. Makes is easy to inspect them and tell if anything is going on. To me, inspecting a dog with a long coat seems a lot harder.

I just feel all over and look at the same time. Yep, inside paws, armpits, the butt area, the ears.

I can tell you that Trifexis did NOT agree with Oji – made him vomit. Took it back to the vet.

What we have done last summer is just a heart worm like Heartguard, and for fleas and ticks, we've used this all natural product called Wondercide. Ingredients: Cedar Oil – 10%, Lemongrass Oil – 0.1%, Hydrated Silica – 89.9%. They have a formula without the lemongrass scent too.

We did some hiking last summer (Oji's first) but there were no tick or flea problems.

I like to apply the stuff to him before we go to the dog park. We're still on our first bottle. It was $26.99 at our local fancy pet food store (16 oz). It's available elsewhere too of course but this price was not too far out of line.

So, who knows if it will do the job for you, or if it will continue to do the job for us, but it has so far.

Actually we are really blessed in that none of my Dobes thus far has had a single flea that I was aware of (and believe me, I fear the flea). Now, ticks we've had – especially Brown Dog Ticks in Arizona and other, smaller ticks in Minnesota.

The ticks are already out in Missouri and Arkansas (found one on myself here and one on Isobel in AR, thankfully both before they bit). I'll be treating the yard as soon as our fledgling grass has a chance to establish itself. I use DEET sprays on myself and have a safer cinnamon based one for Izzy (and myself while I'm still breastfeeding). The small chemical exposure is worth it to avoid some of the awful things ticks carry. We just be sure to wipe off with a wet washcloth or shower at the end of the day.

one on Isobel in AR,
 Ugh! That would have freaked me the hell out!! Stay off my baby!! lol :cus: I HATE those damn things and its bad enough on the dogs! On me?:pullhair: I've caught a few crawling on both of us and one time had one embedded in my head! :weird: Freaked me the hell out! I had my neighbor pull it out for me and I could barely sit still!!! lol!!

And @Drogon you already had one?? Ugh. I know you are in the woods a lot but still... I didn't think we'd have them yet! :anonymous : *sigh* Better get my stuff! I started Nexgard after @JanS suggested it and I didn't have any problems with it. I don't usually use much on myself except some form of Off for mosquitoes and gnats. I don't spray myself just for ticks. I just try and stay out of the woods and keep our grass cut. But they can be anywhere. Trimming our trees is always taking a chance. lol So is going under low tree branches mowing. I think that's how I got the one on my head. Ekkkkkk.....

Ticks will fall out of trees on you, and is one of the ways they get on their host. From what I understand, they can feel your viberation when you are walking towards them and they will fall on you, which is why I always spray my hat with Repel when I am out and about in the yard or woods.

I have already had one tick get me last week, and found a couple on the dogs. So the season has started. It's a jungle out there, so you need to be ready to fight the little critters.

Another reason I spray my cloths is because of the chiggers. That is the only way to protect yourself from them - and they itch like crazy if you get into them. I've had over 50 bites at one time before...not fun!

Oh I know they fall out of the trees! :-) that's why I hate going underneath them to mow sometimes. I have heard they feel that vibration and just drop! Yikes. My husband will come in once in awhile with one crawling on the back of his neck or head after he has been out trimming trees. I'll be like, holy crap, look what's on you! LOL:pullhair:
