They are numbers of local shelters in my state, and a neighboring state. I'm active in TNR and I know the yearly budgets of the shelters I visit - the 10 million range is not uncommon. Also, all that information is made public, they're not statistics. However, I do appreciate and a good sense of humor.

I also have Purebred Dogs im also active in rescue and i also feel for neglected and abused animals. However we will never see eye to eye that the HSUS is the answer. Sorry but no matter how you cut the pie 1% is a joke and a slap in the face to those that the HSUS deceived to get that money. Donate Local!!! Know where your money is going and know how it is being spent.. When i donate to a Charity i want to know more then .10 cents of every ten dollars is going to the animals i donated to help not pay for lobbyists or some Assholes summer vacation home.

Well I don't know about anyone here but our FRIEND for the animals HSUS has but a $5,000 bounty on anyone wh turns in a breeder - Now that is really caring. I know folks who would kill for a lot less. HSUS stinks to high heaven - and HSUS will never nor do they care about factory farming or anything else unless it gets htem in the news with a false face.

I did not explain myself well. Some of the shelters in my area are state of the art with huge budgets but are poorly run. They don't need more money, but rather more experienced and compassionate people. There is one shelter here that has plenty of funds and is run well, and they serve as a role model for the rest.
I understand that many shelters across the country are struggling.

Not many, I would say most. I have yet to come across a shelter that had more money then they knew what to do with. These places don't make a profit. Most skim by what they can, and unfortunately have to put dogs on the priority list.

No one group, no matter how large, no matter how well-funded, could possibly eliminate cruelty overnight. Not when the deeply entrenched commercial pet breeding and factory farming industries have a stranglehold on legislators and oppose every animal welfare measure.

Despite that, animal welfare is immensely better since the HSUS. Think of how animals were treated in the 1950's, before the HSUS got the Humane Slaughter Act passed, before they got Congress to ban shipping dogs in produce crates that left half the animals dead. When research labs could walk into any shelter in the country and take their pick of the animals to experiment on and vivisect. When gunshots and drowning were accepted methods of humane euthanasia. When dogfighting and cockfighting were legal in all 50 states.

Or try just 3 years ago when downer cattle too sick to walk were being driven with forklifts to the killing floor to be ground up into our children's school lunches.
It was HSUS that put a stop to all of that, and more.

    So,where is "your" area?
What kind of dogs do you have again? Purebreds you said.Purebred what?
Your for animal wellfare,I get that.
The million dollar questions....What's your view of cropping/docking? Is it cruel? Should it be banned here like it has been in so many other countries?
    What's your view on BSL?

I'm sorry, but there is no way I could ever support a man that believes things like this....Wayne Pacelle Quotes

This one really gets me We have no ethical obligation to preserve the different breeds of livestock produced through selective breeding ...One generation and out. We have no problems with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding.

My "human creations" work hard going out to visit people, especially the sick or injured veterans that fought hard to give us the right for this debate.
My dogs love their therapy work and bring smiles to the sickest of people. I find it very insulting that Mr. Pacelle would be all for letting my domestic animal become extinct when they work so hard to make life better for so many people.
He wants to put an end to hunting. Seriously? In my area deer are starving to death because HSUS has convinced them that hiring sharp shooters is cruel.
So Mr. Scott, I am going to enjoy eating my steak and taking my dogs out to lighten the heart of the sick, while you and your buddy eat your salad and watch overpopulated animals starve, all the while calling me cruel.
I will work hard with my local shelter finding homes for dogs while you guys are busy killing them because you have no room or no funds.

Excellent Paint and so so true - and to put a $5,000 bounty on turning in your neighbors makes it open season on anyone with dogs period.

Dude your priorities are so seriously screwed up and your facts are skewed and/or geared towards an agenda.

In 2010 there were 1560 children that died from abuse and neglect with a projected 50-60 percent non-reported margin of error. That is more than 2 children per 100,000. Children that starved to death, beat to death, shot, drowned and locked in rooms to die not to mention the sexual and physical abuse. YOU CAN NOT LEGISLATE BEHAVIOR!

HSUS is a farce and has never stopped anything nor will it ever due to its agenda that is not readily made available and outfront with integrity. It preys on the uninformed and represents itself as a caring and hardworking advocate for pet owners when in fact the very people targeted for support they despise and given free reign would stop their ability to own their pets, run their farms or enjoy the animals that are here for us. I love my dog and I love Big Macs (though the meat content is debatable). I hate abuse and neglect -

I know you have an agenda and I am puzzled why you are here when you kow we resent the implications that you have presented. You don't seem to have interrest in a Doberman, getting a Doberman, or talking about a Doberman so I am thinking I will end this conversation but son you really need to look at your prioroties. If you put half the time and passion into making a difference in somones life instead of pushing some outrageous money sucking program that leaves a bad taste in your mouth you might find that you have a greater purpose in life. Best of luck to you
    Mel
