Training 2 year old dog with new doberman puppy

My pup was delivered yesterday. I am having hard time socializing my new pup with my 2 year old doberman. I let the dog sniff the new pup and gave treats to her for sniffing but she still wants to chase her and with her nozzle pushes her on the floor! I have no idea how they are gonna get along if i leave them for a min unattended. New puppy sleeps in the crate for now should I keep it that way? For a month or so ? any advice would help in socializing them!

They should not be unattended at all at this point. This is going to take time, the pup should be crated anytime you are not there or when you are sleeping. I crated my girls until they were almost 2yrs old. It will take time and patience for you to get your older Dobe and your pup to get to know each other and play safely together. It will help if you are training both dogs. If your older dog is not well trained it will make it that much harder for you and for them. Patience, training and crating is the answer.

If you are there and can keep an eye on them, she can be out of the crate. If you want her loose when you can't watch her, then put your other dog in a crate. You can rotate the dogs in and out of the crate every few hours, or as often as your time permits, that way they both get free time.

I have just the opposite situation. I have a 16 yr old Yorkie (male) and got an 11 wk old Dobie (female) and thought they would be fine after a short time. Wrong, the Dobie is sweet but her paw and mouthing from the beginning is something that aggravates the Yorkie so it has to be monitored still, but less so. Good luck

Hi, I have a 10 month female Dobie and a 16 male Yorkie. I got the Dobie at 10 wks and she has terrorized the Yorkie ever since. It is certainly better but still exists the Dobie thing the Yorkie is a plaything mouthy and paw. Would not leave them together unattended until the puppy is old/big enough to show the 2 yr old "NO MORE". My Yorkie will never be able to do that....lol
