Total Dobermans

I think part of the problem is that not that the standards are different between AKC and FCI, they are actually quite similar if you take the time to read them. Its that judges interpretation of the standard (or possibly lack of) are putting up typey dogs... and then those are are chasing ribbons seek to breed typey dogs and then you end up with a class full of dogs on one extreme or another with only a few that actually meet the standard but look out of place next to all the typey ones.
Aha, that would make sense! I do wish that breeders would decide that standard or no standard, a Doberman(every Doberman) should have the beauty attached with such a dog, but combined with the working ability that often is portrayed in less than 'perfectly beautiful' Dobes. Will we someday see the Doberman a breed above all others because of its total elegance and unmatched ability??!!

There are a few breeders out there that strive for both. I too wish it was more the norm. I'm wondering if time is a major conflict. You spend a year or two finishing your dog in Conformation then have to spend years training for protection work. There's only so many weekends in a year too lol and that's when a lot of training and trials happen. And that's just for one dog. Seems like a multi person job!

I'll agree on that. I think this would be a generational thing. Strive to bring out the best temperament in the Dobermans you as the breeder are breeding and hope that the next generation would take up where they left off. Like a line from "In Flander's Field," 'To you from failing hands we throw the torch...' Another obstacle is still getting dogs that a multi-purpose. Therapy dogs should probably have a somewhat different temperament then protection dogs. But no matter how much you breed, you will never get dogs that have the exact same temperament. I have seen too many GSD puppies to know that that is impossible. They will have their own personalities. We can simply breed to bring out the desired results.

If there is not already a thread for this, starting one on what we think the Doberman should become in the future might be interesting.

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure this dog got his IGP3 before he got his AKC CH. I'd have to dig to find out. This is Ashas grandsire (her dams sire):
AKC UDC CH Chaos v Koby Haus Sch3, IPO3, AD, FH2, ZTP, CGC, TDI, CDX. The holy grail if you ask me.

I remember Case. I believe his owner* was/is a member on here https://doberman-chat.com/members/cathynu.2474/ . (*Sorry, got it mixed up. She used this male for a litter). Doesn't surprise me they worked on his working title first if that's the case. The amount of work would still be the same... A LOT!

He is a beautiful dog! Do a side profile picture of him? But is he could get both his AKC Ch and IPO3, that's one amazing dog!

Is it possible to get an IPO3 without getting IPO1 and IPO2? Yes, I looked him up, but I didn't see any side profile pictures of him. I actually downloaded a magazine type thing, but I haven't looked over it totally, just Chaos.

No. You have to get a BH before IGP1 (IPO is no longer the title, but same thing), you have to achieve IGP2 before you can compete in IGP3. On the dogs official titles if the highest they get is IGP1, that will be listed. If/when they achieve IGP2 or 3 it simply replaces the previous title. So if you see IGP3 on a dog they have competed and passed IGP1 & 2.

Actually, I had looked that up because I thought that had to be, I just didn't know why it wasn't listed. Thanks!
