Soft sided crate repair

Dingo broke out of her soft crate over the weekend... Not sure why as she's never shown interest in break out before. I had their crates in the bedroom we were staying in with the door closed but I'm sure they could hear the other dogs/people moving around.

Bought this specifically for agility and travel and have only used it half a dozen times so I decided I was going to fix it instead of replace it GOSH DARN

Rubie can get her head through this hole but she escaped by pushing the zipper open

Topped off with some fabric repair tape on both sides. pressed and rubbed together firmly for several seconds.

Has anyone used this stuff before? I figured if it could hold the wind in a sail... it could hold a Dobe in a crate?

Looks great to me and I can't see tossing the whole crate when you're able to fix it like that.

Dingo broke out of her soft crate over the weekend

We've never had a break out. For whatever reason Drake hops around in his. At a show a few years ago I left my friend with the dogs in their crates while I got something to drink. I came back and she was laughing watching Drake hop around. Apparently he had other things to do, like the weim in the next row that was in heat. He had that crate moved about 3 feet before I got back. :wideyed:
Rumor has never been in one. She'd probably have it rolling end over end.

I guess we'll find out...my money is on the Dobe :spit:

We'll see how the next trial goes

I'm sure the spot I fixed it now the strongest spot so if she does get out again... it'll be the next weakest to give out...

Perhaps that's why we HAVEN'T had issues at trials - she can see everything going on, for the most part. Plus, when I walk away to go watch others run or whatever, I can tell when it's Dingo barking so if it's more than a few barks, I'll just walk back over and pop into view and tell her to knock it off.

My dogs rip the bars off of wire crates, soft crates wouldn’t even be a challenge.

LUCKILY I think this was a one off... I bought it because lugging around a 42" metal crate was a bit too much work than I was willing to do... definitely do NOT want to get into the monstrosities you need to use for AGILITY trials! people would think I'm bringing in a lion or something

I have two soft crates that need TLC. Have been looking for a way to repair mine so thanks for posting this! Let me know if it works. There is supposedly a guy who patches them that show ppl swear by, but he is not at all local and I don’t want to mail my crate to him or wait until I’m at a show near him.

I certainly will! We have a trial this weekend so it'll be put to the test!

A close friend of mine too has a Doberman in his house who broke a soft-sided crate along with a designed small wooden cabinet which he has bought it from this site. He is too now looking the way to get the crate repaired soon. But, upon seeing its condition I don't think that it will get repaired. He will likely have to spend some money to buy a new one.

had to resurrect this thread after the holidays...

We left the pooches at my moms house to go see a movie on Christmas day. Rubie went into the soft crate, Moo into the metal crate. I had a moment of pause and considered switching them but... didn't :nono:

Came home a few hours later to a busted out and very excited Rubie!

I should've taken a before picture because she absolutely shredded the door of the crate. The patch from the Labor Day 2018 incident has held really well so I used the same patches for this fix. Should still be totally fine for trials but will not be using it for Dobe containment whilst out of the house...

The small patch on the bottom left is the previous fix. ALL other frankenstitches are from this round.

We put Moo in the soft crate the night after Rubie shredded it and in super cute Moo fashion, when we woke up, he stoood up and stuck his handsome little face out to say good morning

If it goes through another round of abuse, it would probably be more cost effective to just replace as I've spent $30 on patches already!

Is anybody else just getting an X where the pictures should be on your initial post??

Omg, reading through the early part of the thread, I had put my money on the Dobe - I guess this means I win! :spit: Rubie running around free, ya I can so picture that!

The part about Moo sticking his face through the hole is so AWWWWWW

I just had to add to this thread. Hope to bring a laugh or two. No repairs on my part here, but if you want this crate for your very own, I'll ship it for the cost of postage. (it's small dog/large cat size) LOL. Cat used it for a scratching post on the corners and a hammock on the top. Going to the landfill next week, but every time I look at it I think of this thread! Anyone want it for the good bones (frame)? P1000335.JPG P1000336.JPG
