Hi there is been a long time since i posted something on this site, i think the last time i posted something was when i just gotten my puppy he was 5 weeks old , well now he is 9 months old and he grew up a beutiful strong dog, He was raised with a minidoberman chihuaha mix dog 5 years of age , so he got used to being around other dogs and i sociolize him good with other dogs, 3 weeks ago Tlaloc(the doberman ) some how open the gate and both dogs wondered the streets for two days when i was out of town , Tlaloc came back , but not jack the 5 year old , So i want to get him another buddy since he is used to another dog , i went to a doberman shelter and found a 1 year old puppy i brought tlaloc to the shelter and put both dogs in a room and they seemed to get along fine , i havent picked up the other dog because he is getting neutered , and tlaloc is getting neutered next week too, oh yeah and the other dog is a Male doberman, I put a deposit on him so i can pick him up once he is fixed , but my question is this i have been reading about dogs of the same sex and how it can be a problem and blah blah , and since they are both doberman and dominant and blah blah , so i want to ask you guys the ones that have two male dobermans if they have any issues at all with aggression ,fighting one another , tlaloc has a very nice temperament , and like i said when i put them together in the same room they seemed to get along just fine , the girl that broguht the doberman to shelter said that he was raised with other dogs too. so i need your guys input and experience in this situation. Thank you so much .

to be honest i wouldn't do it and i do have to fixed males here. one is a 5 year old GSD and a one year doberman. male to male agression its a big issue and with just one visit you not really know how the will get along in the long run.
we have some members here what do have more then just one male and they will tell you more about this. both dogs are still pretty young and you don't know when they mature what happens and you don't wanna see a dog fight in your house, when they start to fight over the alpha position. please think about it again and maybe better look for a female companion for your dog. and i'm surprised that the shelter will adopt a male into a household, what already has a male dog.

I don't know Tina, I have one of each and Chloe was constantly attacking Herc. It may work with two neutered males so long as there's crates for time outs if things get out of hand. I think it depends on the dobes not the sex, but that's just my personal experience.

Nice to hear back from you Chavouseless! I'm sorry to hear about you losing your other dog.

The male to male thing can be a big issue even with neutered Dobermans, so I would give it more thought. I have never tried to keep to male Dobe's together, but from the stories I've heard it can be heartbreaking, so I wouldn't want to chance it.

We have a male and female, and they're fixed but still have spats, but it's different when you get two males who are hell bent on taking the other down, so it could turn into disaster.

I'm really glad you;re trying to give the rescue a great forever home, but it would be tragic to have it not work out and winding up returning him.

i think you werent really listening to us, but thats ok. i wish you luck and hope you never ever will see male to male agression with your dogs. you should have done more research.
and here a lot of members what might didn't saw your thread yet and will tell you more about it, later on.and i still think the shelter shouldn't have adopt choco oout to a excisting male household, a good rescue wouldn't do it.

Helping out at the Doberman Rescue, I know they wouldn't consider letting you adopt another male. It is too risky. It puts you, both dogs, and everyone else in the house at risk. I have two males, they DO get a long for the most part, but they've gotten into a few times. It is VERY scary. They are both young, and it may escalade when they get more mature.

I did some research online and what not , so eneded up asking the Lady that runs the shelter I mean she has only been runing it for only 23 years so i figure she has more expirience that some people online or me. But she did mentioned that never get two females together because they will kill each other, and also mentioned that i can return the dog in 30 days but i hope i dont have to.

Hey? Why are being so distasteful?

As many rescues and shelters I know of, none of them will adopt out to with another male.

I can't for the life of me figure out why she would say that females are more aggressive than males... THAT boggles my mind. :no2:

We own two female Dobies... NO WAY, we would try to pair up two males in the same house. :slapme:

I would suggest this to you: Make SURE you have separate crates for each of your males... Be prepared for lots of work bringing them up together.

Once you have them housetrained and THINK that you can leave them alone together for a little while, Set up a video camera so you can watch them...

Dobies act different when you are not there friend. :)

I would not leave ours out together (alone) for a minute if someone was not here to watch them. ONE (or BOTH) of them is going in a crate if we got to leave for a bit... A proper crate is much less expensive that the cost of the potential Vet bills from them fighting or the damage that they could cause to your house.

My guess would be that the lady at the shelter either just wanted to free up the space and take your money, or she does not know much about dogs...

I am all for somone adopting a Dobie, but you took on a big responsibility by adding a second male Dobie to the family. It would break your heart if you came home one day and found one of them hurt because of a Dobie fight...
