This came through my email last night. Curious they're blaming it on the green beans, of all things. Listeria mono is basically everywhere: 100% USDA and restaurant grade ingredients included.

JustFoodForDogs Voluntarily Recalls Three Daily Diets because of Possible Listeria monocytogenes Health Risk from Green Beans
JustFoodForDogs (JFFD) of Los Alamitos, CA, is voluntarily recalling its Beef & Russet Potato, Fish & Sweet Potato and Turducken dog food meals in all sizes. JFFD uses 100% USDA and other restaurant grade ingredients in all of its pet food, and because the green beans used in these meals may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the companyis alerting the public. Listeria monocytogenescan affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans if they were to intentionally or unintentionally ingest the dog food or come into contact with contaminated feces from a pet that has eaten the food.

Listeriosis is rare in dogs and when infected most dogs have mild symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting, however, more serious symptoms are possible, such as fever, muscular and respiratory signs, abortion and even death. In addition to the possibility of becoming sick, such infected animals can shed Listeria monocytogenes through their feces and thus serve as a source of infection to humans, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands.

A First…Pet Food Recall leads to Human Food Recall
By Susan Thixton
- January 23, 2018

To my knowledge, this has never happened before. A pet food discovered a bacterial contamination in a human grade ingredient. The human food industries using the exact same ingredient never caught the problem. Score one for pet food.

On January 15, 2018 the pet food company Just Food for Dogs announced a recall. The pet food company (using 100% human edible ingredients) acted on a consumer complaint; testing of the pet food discovered Listeria monocytogenes. Further testing done by Just Food for Dogs traced the bacterial contamination to green beans used in the dog food. Just Food for Dogs notified its customers, the public, regulatory authorities and it’s supplier.

Which has now led to a human food recall. From Food Safety News

National Frozen Foods Corp. issued a Class I recall of individual quick frozen green beans because of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to notices posted by US Foods Inc. and the U.S. Department of Defense Commissary Agency.

The frozen food manufacturer issued its recall following the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in a third-party test by a downstream customer, a pet food company.

A notice from the U.S. Department of Defense Commissary Agency reported the following products sold in its commissary stores were included in the recall:

  • SYS IMP Bean Green Whole IQF NWP, 12/2 pounds: Lot number 17102703A03, MPC V5404

  • NW TRES Bean Green Cut, 1/30 pounds: Lot number 17102603A02, MPC 62406-9007

  • SYS CLS Bean Green Cut GR A P, 12/2 pounds: Lot number 17102703A03, MPC 1435197
Hats off to Just Food for Dogs. Your swift action, your safety protocols surpassed that of human food. Thank you.

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

@strykerdobe oh, thanks for reposting! I thought it looked familiar but couldn't find it!

Since it's not the FDA requesting the company recall the green beans, it would seem that there isn't any additional information that would implicate them, specifically, but they sure did respond fast to the pet food finding. Wonder if they're hiding something... Peanut Corporation of American, anyone?...
