DPCA membership???

Just seems unprofessional and unwelcoming. That's my only gripe here.
I hear and understand your gripe! I'm glad you voiced your concerns directly with them. That is the only way they'll know and something can *maybe* change. We can't do anything here unfortunately. :p

Someone was wondering in the above FB group if its legal with AKC for them to close membership.

It's the misery loves company whining on my part. 🙃 Hope it gets resolved on DPCA, but if that's how they are and they don't care, then that speaks volumes for itself. And I'll let you know if they answer back my email, but so far, no.

I just got the BOD meeting minutes the other day but those bore me to tears so I haven't looked at it yet to see if there's any mention of this.

The email I got didn't mention it and was a summary of the issues discussed, not a transcript.

Just got an answer back from DPCA. I do appreciate that there was an answer at all, because after a while you feel like there won't be one. I will thank her for her reply and call it a day. If I was a member I would voice (again) my concern that an added short sentence of being backlogged and will open applications again soon might soften it up a little to someone who came there specifically to apply for membership. It was nice to be able to banter this around with all of you who joined this conversation. Here's the reply:

Thank you for contacting us and sharing your concerns. At this time our membership is closed for a number of reasons. We are currently backlogged with applications due to unforeseen circumstances. Some applicants have been waiting over a year for us to process and vet their applications. We decided as a board that we owed it to those applicants to focus on getting them processed and voted on.

We will be opening up our membership again in the not so distant future. We're glad that you find our site educational and enjoyable.

Yep... it's blowing up right now. A lot of good people denied. I was denied. It absolutely shocked me. People have reached out to me about it that have been on the board in the past are going to vouch for me. Hopefully it isn't too late other wise I'm left out and can't reapply for another year. You can only list two sponsors. I never knew it was so political who you chose as a sponsor. Why have sponsors if it doesn't matter? Only 9 out of 38 applicants were approved, apparently the most denials they've seen. People that have titled their dogs and are committed to the breed and want to help. Major upset all over social media.

I'm really ticked off at what they did for approving new member applications and how they aren't even taking new member applications now. They are supposed to be the pillar of the breed and the current people in office are shooting themselves in the foot.

Wow. I started this thread because I was just taken back that they had a curt short statement about no new applications. Goes much deeper evidently. @Rits, I know you must be disappointed - I can't imagine a board voting to keep out a newcomer who has done so much with her first Doberman. It shocks me. What kind of club is this anyway? I never thought of it this way at all.

From my understanding, I'll admit I do not know much, but from what I've heard its an issue with the current board. I believe they get voted on yearly. Many aren't happy with this situation, many like me and those that do even more than I currently do like David above ( ) have been denied... so I don't think it looks good.

I was and am. But I'll keep doing me and haven't lost my focus on the good of the breed, club or not. I just wanted to be involved, uplifted, continue my education and be able to give back. I'll look for other clubs to give my money to in the mean time.

I'm more disappointed in the club itself and wondering where their reasoning has gone. I assumed (yeah I know, never assume) that it was the place that took care of us and watched out for the breed. The website is such a huge chunk of stats & reports & all the things a person needs to know, I thought the people behind it would be the same...

It used to be the people behind it when I first joined several years ago. I thought about not renewing my membership because of where it's gone, but then I remembered that if some of us drop our membership we can't vote to make it better. We will fight on and try to get it back to where it was.

Exactly. There are many good members and it's up to them to steer it back on track and continue to foster and invite the younger generation in. Not everyone is a bad apple, but there are always some bad apples in every group. Leaving will make it worse.

As an active member of a DPCA club, I find this appalling. One of the requirements of being a club officer is being a DPCA member. I'm having a very hard time recruiting people to be officers and club members. This makes life for member clubs very difficult.
