I asked the same question! @JerseyFirefighter can correct me if I'm wrong, but he said it is treated with something to make it water resistant, as in ok to get wet due to weather, but not ideal for long term wetness, such as swimming. The water can wear down the durability of the leather overy time. We swapped out for a nylon collar while we played in the water. And that's the leamans terms lol he explained it me a lot more fancy than that!
