Crop issue

I’m not sure if my girls crop was done right. I asked for a medium crop but her ears look so small. She is 8 weeks and couple days old. She had them done on 8/14. So the still have stitches and healing. I will ass some pictures. She is going back to the vet Monday but I’m worried they look so small…. She had a hard cone on my it was rubbing on them and I felt it was hurting her. Her forms also fell out.

Welcome from SE Alabama.

Did you mean her ears were cropped on 9/14 (not 8/14)?

Yes sorry. She is 8 and half weeks old today. The breeder recommended me too this vet and has done others but they seem little. She had small ears to begin with because she was so little.

Welcome!

She's got a great looking face!

Well, initially as I look at the pics in kind of a hurry, they do look short.

The vet put strips in her ears with glue after surgery. They fell out this morning. Is she ok with them just hanging now? Do the ears grow over time?? Or will they always look this small?

From the pictures, they do look short with a lot of bell, to me. They look to be a little puffy still, so once the stitch are out and she isn't wearing a cone, we'll be able to see them better.

Many Dobe owners let the ears just hang and flop free, and don't start posting them up until the incisions are healed; so you will be fine on that.

That's actually a great question regarding whether the ears grow in size as the dog grows. I would say that yes they do grow some, but not proportionately as much as the head grows. Maybe someone who has more experience than me can more definitively speak on this aspect of the topic. I've personally only brought up three Dobes thus far. I do know that they can look like their ears are too big when they are quite young, and it's like they haven't grown into their ears yet.

One significant factor the size and shape of the dog's head. You hear experienced cropping people say the crop depends on that, and must be tailored to that. Your girl there, based just on those few pics, seems like she has a nice substantial snout. This is a good thing! It does, however, need to be taken into account by the ear cropper.

We measured her ears tip to base and they are 3 1/2 inches pulled up. Not tight but just flapped up.. I’m not sure if that helps.

Well...whatever the case may be, the crop is done, and she is ADORABLE! I am certain she will look just fine, you are probably just used to seeing alot of show crops. She is a beautiful girlie

Thank you. I’m just concerned. I didn’t want a show crop going into it. I wanted more medium crop. 🙂 she is half America and half European.

I’d say the ears do change as they grow. Here’s our Euro with a medium crop. At 3 months they looked long and thin.

This is 4 months they started to look smaller and rounder as his head grew.

As an adult, some angles can make his ears look really long and stylized like this one. But most pics of him - tons are posted all over this site - appear with a regular sized ear which I think looks more appropriate on a Euro.

I took these this morning.
