Big lump on Albert's head

Eek I got home from work and immediately did a double take when I looked at the top of his head. Hubby was home and said it wasn't like this a while ago, so I can only assume he must have done something when him and Della were playing.
I got a couple of poor photos of it, but it doesn't bother him in the slightest and isn't sensitive at all either, but it feels hard and just like a bone.
The earliest I can get him to the vet is 3:15, but that will have to do...
    .
Anyone else ever seen anything like this?

Welcome to the club! Asha got it too remember. She bumped her head agains the table. It took a while to go away.

It is bursta or hematoma. My vet could not determine exactly what it was. I decided not to do X-rays.
A young puppy don't need X-rays on the head if any chance a bump may go away on its own.

I will post Asha's pictures with a bump later.

Put ice bag for 2 days and then use something warm. I was using the cream Katja recommended on 3rd day. Don't remember the name.
    Katja do you?

I thought you'd had that problem, Lisa. Glad to know it will go away. Poor Albert. He must have really bumped it hard.

Oh that's right, I forgot about that incident with Asha - thanks DV! I wonder if I should just watch it a bit to see if it goes down by this afternoon with a bit of ice then. They're open tomorrow so I can always get him in in the morning if it's still up there. Was hers hard like that too?

I was about to say that Asha did that when she was a pup. Bailey just looks like that always. LOL

Poor guy!!! You know, Katie had a bump like that on her head for her entire life... I don't know when it showed up, though.

It was hard and a bit moveable especially below her "wisdom" bump. It depends where it is located.
It took months to get rid of it completely. I suspected hematoma.
My vet told me she had never seen it before but she doesn't see many Dobermans either.

Maybe it's just advanced wisdom bump? Some Dobermans have a significant one.

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and iced it right after I saw DV's first post (he wasn't thrilled with that LOL) and I think it has already come down a little, so I'm going to keep an eye on it and if necessary, take him in tomorrow. :)

I took the picture a few weeks after the injury. Albert's bump looks much smaller.

Oh wow, Asha's was much bigger and wider, but less pronounced. Thanks for the reassurance on it!

I am glad I am not abnormal (well maybe) Lord when something
happens to my kids I freak out.

Quite a few years ago when I had Mateese I thought I saw a lump on her
side when she was just a pup so I took her to my vet. He examined her and
the whole 9 yards so it came time to pay and he said NO CHARGE.....LOL

Now Maggie she could not walk she drug herself so you can just imagine

Hoping Albert is ok Jan and I hope it continues to go down, they will
    drive us to drink:martini::martini::martini::rolleyes:

It was very pronounced. The picture was taken a few weeks after the injury.
I was totally stressed out....:weird:Look at my girl now. There are no signs of the injury at all.

Albert Einstein lol he just has an abundance of gray matter there!! Seriously though none of mine have had a bump on their head but Max had one on his side when he was attacked by a deer years ago! I believe it was called a hematoma and it never totally went away it was quite large and even after it healed it left quite a bump it is just in front of his hip bone and if you look it like he has a third hip bone there:groan:

Do you know your pup's vWD status? The reason I ask is because dogs with vonWillenbrand's with often get bumps like that.

The only time I've seen something like that was when a pup tried to run up under the deck, when he ducked his head to go under, he wacked it on the 2x10. Instant knot head! Initially, it was hard, then started to get soft and the vet had to drain it.
