Anyone have any recommendations of good European Doberman Breeders? I like the bigger boned and more boxy muzzle look that is commonly found in the European show lines and is present in some working lines.Even though this is the look that I like health and temperament are more important to me. So I’m looking for breeders whose dogs have nice and solid temperaments. I also want a healthy puppy so it has to be from lines that are not prone to dogs dying at a young age. I also have no problem with working line European Dobermans because I have owned a working line Malinois before. So high drive and high energy are not a problem.

This is the look that I like.

You need to research the pedigrees beyond the parents & grandparents (siblings/aunts/uncles/older siblings....etc).

A good ethical breeder will do their best not to pass along hereditary issues. However, keep in mind, even with all the testing in the world, with great or even good results, that does not guarantee a pup won't have issues down the road. This does lessen the chance, but by no means a guarantee.

    Hey there!

That's a good question! I am always on the lookout for my next breeder!

Based on what you want, I wouldn't waste time thinking about a working-line Doberman. Dobes bred for high performance do not have that heavy boned, big, impressive head look. Ask me how I know.

I saw today that @DanBar checked in with us again. Perhaps she has some input?

Thanks for your reply. I am amare that even with health testing that does not guarantee a healthy pup. I also have been researching lines and pedigree. I just wanted to know If anyone has any breeders that they recommend. Or any bad breeders that they don’t recommend. Like I said I before I have experience with working lines Mals so I know more about healthy lines in the Malinois amd good Mal breeders. This would be my first Doberman and while I have been doing some research for a while I’m sure that there things I don’t know about certain breeders and certain lines. So I’m asking for other people’s recommendations and comments on certain breeders, so I can learn more and continue my research

Thanks for your reply. Like I said in my orginal post I know the look I like is commonly found in show lines. But I have actually seen it in a few working lines. I have spoken to a few breeders that mix show lines with working lines. So the dogs end up with more of that look but are still capable of performing a job without breaking down. And like I mentioned before I care more about temperament and health than looks. So even if a dog has the look I like if they are unhealthy and don’t have a good temperament, I’m not interested. But if they are healthy with a good temperament then I don’t really care about the look.Which is why I said I have no problem with working lines, because in most cases they are healthier. So if you know any good working line breeders, please let me know.

You might check with Laural Harris of Omnia Paratus Doberman’s. She breeds some really nice euro’s.

I think they were a conformation Euro breeder and they are a member here: @Proud Danish of Tahi Remi - they posted a pic of a gorgeous Doberman named Jedi in the Presentation section.

I’m curious to know why you’re switching from Mals to Dobermans? Is it to take a break :spit: I can barely keep up with my Dobe so I cannot begin to imagine what kind of person can keep up with a Mal lol.

I’m not exactly doing a full switch. I still have an import Malinois who I don’t plan on getting rid of.A part of me has just always wanted a Doberman and I thought now was the right time. I’ll probably have another Mal in the future because the breed will always have a special place in my heart. But this time instead of getting a second Mal I thought I would finally get a breed that I have wanted for a while.
