Backer rod with bumpers

Just posted Angel (14 weeks) with 3/8 backer rods and I added bumpers to try to fix those pockets. I am very pleased with this method. I like it best so far. Also decided to do away with the bridge to try to get her ears to gain more strength. I am really curious to hear about if I did the right thing by doing away with the bridge! She also seems to be least irritated by these posts. Anyways, I’m always looking for feedback so I can learn. Although this is my 3rd crop, she is my first Doberman. Thanks!

Absolutely. I'm a big advocate for getting rid of that bride asap since they can do more harm than good. I think I only used the bridge for the first post on most our Doberman pups since they had good control on their own after that.

I was using it to help get rid of the pockets but these bumpers are wayyy better. Makes sense not to use the bridge.

I also took that big bottom piece of tape off and replaced it with a smaller one like on top. I want the ears to be able to breathe.

Shorter tape at base.

Yup that's better. They only need the one piece at the top and one at the bottom.

Update: Angel ended up having a bad reaction to the tape. Ears would bleed underneath tape. Took the posts out yesterday and unfortunately I’m going to have to wait for her ears to heal until I repost with different tape. I hate to go that long without posting but her health comes first.

What kind of tape were you using? I know it doesn't look like anything I've ever used and the tape can be important.

The Kendall is always a good choice since it breathes and don't irritate most dogs.

That is the tape I have, but it’s tan.
