I saw a photo of him on a national animal welfare community site. He looked awful and I decided I was going to step in and help him. He had an infected wound in his neck, an infected wound on his head, tick bite fever mange and worms. He was extremely underweight. He came from the capital down to the coast delivered by one of my clients who was up in Windhoek for business. The moment I saw him I thought, shit is this little dude gonna make it. The first night I could barely sleep and kept checking he was breathing. We named Bruce Lee as he was a real fighter. Slowly slowly his personality began to come out as he got better.
I eventually handed him over to my friend and business partner to foster when he was better as I was getting to attached and he was supposed to be our first rescue ( we run a rescue called Furever Friends). Her boyfriend and her soon started to feel attached to him too. Bruce Lee would do little happy dances when ever he saw some one he loved. He walks beautifully on a leash and was gentle with human, dog and and animal alike. We had him for 4.5 months.
We found him a home back in windhoek (where he came from). I promised myself I would not cry when we handed him over. I was fine until we loaded him in the car. Then I just began to uncontrollably cry. Even know my eyes begin to tear up. I don't know why. The truth is this little dog was probably no ones dog before. We were probably the first people who ever showed him love gave him a collar, his own bowl, a bed to sleep in. I felt like a traitor handing him over. Thankfully we have a strict contract in place so he has to come back to us should anything happen. I was very close to keeping him as was my business partners boyfriend. We decided he would adopt him out as thats what rescues do we can't keep them all. He really touched our hearts Bruce Lee. My friend and I were so emotional in handing him over we forgot to hand over his vet card! We just cried like babies.
Here is adoption poster and the very last photo I took of him while we waited for him to be collected. (excuse the drool he gets car sick)
