Common sense yes but more exposure to new places and experiences will help with this. Go to a different new park every weekend. His protection mode has gotten stronger. I need to get a handle on that. Someone raised their hand up waving to us, and he was looking at that as a threat. He also did it when some people were setting up at the beach right next to us. Started barking and the hair on his back went up. Once I tell him, it's ok, he stops, but feel I need to have this handled where he understands the difference between a threat and not.
That sounds pretty good actually. As long as he stops when asked and just reacts initially. I have trouble settling Jazz if we have people who shout and are loud, but that's ok by me!His protection mode has gotten stronger. I need to get a handle on that. I think one of the biggest confidence builder and builder of trust (him to I) was taking Ragnar to a football stadium or baseball park and having him climb the high aluminum bleachers with me. He felt very uneasy climbing the slick aluminum steps and the clicking of his nails made him feel uneasy.
I did not force him up but practically made him (reluctantly). He did not like it at all but I just about saw an immediate confidence boost and trust affect afterwards when we would continue through the park. His head held higher and his chest deeper- such a cool thing to see.
I say all of that because the more he is confident of you and trusting of you (and of himself) for any given situation…the less reactant he will be because he knows to look to you.
yes! Totally agreeLooks like a he had the time of his life! I know it's so much more work and thoughtful preparation to vacation with dogs but it's also so rewarding!
They all have water hose/shower spots to rinse off yourself and dogs at the rentals. Thanks on the training! I work hard with him daily and he absolutely has fun! I found that one tug toy that you see that motivates him. I keep it up and only take it out when we train/play as I do everything. He's turned into an amazing dog and it's so refreshing to have fun with him after that puppy stage!Wow - looks like a great time was had by all! I'm realizing the only trips I've taken Asha on are to trials or training. Maybe we should plan an exotic trip to a beach.I'm assuming all beaches have some sort of fresh water faucet to rinse off the salt & sand before heading back to your room? I literally can not remember the last time I saw a beach, but I'm thinking it was in Los Angeles in '93.
Your training looks super. He will do nothing but improve in everything y'all do together, but sounds like a few other Dobes around here: give an inch, he'll take a mile.![]()
Oh I loved hearing that!He kept begging at the door to go back to the beach every day!
Loved hearing that even more!He would voluntarily walk to his crate for bed in the evenings!
It's amazing to witness how this evolves with maturity. His protection mode has gotten stronger. I need to get a handle on that. You should! Different outings reveal hidden characteristics in our Dobers. I'm always more impressed with Kaiser after every outing. I always imagine horror scenarios, but he seems to be on his best behavior in new environments - and we feel more like a "pack" during those times too.Maybe we should plan an exotic trip to a beach
LOL, the puppy stage is just epic. As I always say, first time Dobering is no joke! But it's always funny in hindsight, and of course, commiserating with othersit's so refreshing to have fun with him after that puppy stage
And you've done an awesome job, asking questions, putting in the work and not giving up and holding him to task. Thanks on the training! I work hard with him daily and he absolutely has fun! Thank you so much! That made me cry. Happy tears, of course. There were many times I wanted to pull my hair out LOL. This group has really helped me a lot. Thank you guys so much! I'm lucky to have such a great support group. And you've done an awesome job, asking questions, putting in the work and not giving up and holding him to task.![]()
