A mundane picture

A very ordinary picture of what I’ve done thousands of times. Here I’m doing it at the Nationals.

AJ and I are setting up for an exercise while the judge waits. Every Companion sport exercise we do begins this way, from Rally Novice to Obedience Utility.

We’re at the starting point. AJ and I are futzing around to get in position. When we get in position, the judge will say, “Are you ready?” When I say “Ready”, AJ is by my side looking at my face and his body is coiled to take off when I give the command.

Right now, we have a perfect score. We may have a perfect run and keep the perfect score. We may crash and burn as Non-Qualifying. We may lose a half point or even a three point deduction for Every. Single. Mistake.

Then the judge gives us the command to start with one of the following commands –

“Forward!”
“Leave your dog!”
“Down your dog!”
“Send your dog!”
“Stand your dog!”
“Throw it!”
“Take an article!”
“One!”, “Two!” or “Three!”

The thrill of being in the arena.
