I have never done it, but we have a lot or rails to trails bike paths that would probably be easier on the joints. Although they have made most of them asphalt, there are still some that are gravel and grass.

With Chopper I watch the feeding and water time with exercise. I let things settle in before he is off and running. He has slowed down to munching now on his food. And he has to wait an hour after eating before he goes swimming. He is hard on his water...
