    The Tevis Cup - 100 miles < 24 hours

Potato Richardson is such an icon of the sport - awesome you knew him and got to ride one of his horses! Great stories, small world to meet up as Doberman fans.

Adult or Puppy food at 12 months?

My Doberman is sensitive to any Sulphur based antibiotics and Carprofen pain meds - any variety under different names. Serious diarhrea on top of a spay is NOT fun, I think @MichiH discusses it in her thread "Pepper". I opted out of take-home pain meds but didn't know the gave an injectable...

    The Tevis Cup - 100 miles < 24 hours

Same here! As everything else, 25 years changes so much. That's the way it has to be done for the long haul. My first goal was to finish and second goal was to top ten. Yeah, always a few like this way back in the day. There was some kind of race way back like '70's or '80's in Oklahoma with a...

    The Tevis Cup - 100 miles < 24 hours

You know it is, but these people are so dedicated to the health and welfare of their horses, most everyone would rather be safe than sorry. Only at one ride did I see a rider argue with the vet and become an a$$ about it, which only convinced me that the horse needed to be pulled. If you want...

Whoa~! Rein 'em in here and show your horse! 2026

Back around the late '90's we used Lopez or G.E. but I looked it up and Lopez has either joined or been bought out by Centaur forge and G.E, no longer offers rebuilds. 🤷‍♀️ If you take good care of your nippers and just do your own, they'll last a lifetime. I bought mine used already with the...

Whoa~! Rein 'em in here and show your horse! 2026

I learned to trim and shoe my personal horse, but it was never easy physically. Only doing one horse I never got fit for the job and never got fast. When boots became a thing for trail and endurance riding I quit metal shoes, then quit doing any feet at all when I found a good shoer. I still...

Michael Ellis Train the Trainer courses

I've purchased a few videos he put out in years past via Leerburg and probably watched every free video that ME had that Leerburg posted. Not sure if Leerburg still has all those free videos, most were short and sweet but always good information.

That's awesome! Wonder if my state would pass that! Hahaha, now we'll be seeing this plate in all the states with a DCF member...

    The Tevis Cup - 100 miles < 24 hours

I got this book for Christmas in 1967 when I was 10. It's still with me here on my bookshelf:

    The Tevis Cup - 100 miles < 24 hours

I am always in awe of the horses and riders who complete this ride! This year I didn't get to follow it closely but one of the stand-out reports was by the Arabian Jockey Club - the number of horses in the top ten that were bred for the racing on the flat track. As I have pushed constantly here...

Interesting at a glance, but I admit I don't have time to do a deep dive - thanks for sharing though.

Random Pet Photo of the Day - 2026

In over 6 years I have never seen Asha lay down on the tile floor or concrete porch. Always on a rug or a dog bed. Dirt or grass is ok, but not cold tile or concrete no matter how hot she is. Reckless lays flat out on it all the time on hot days.

Whoa~! Rein 'em in here and show your horse! 2026

I was at a scent work trial all weekend, so I didn't have time to do deep dives or read all the feed I got on the Tevis. When I get a minute I'll try to post some comments of interest. Wasn't sure that the Tevis was much interest here, but I follow it every year! And speaking of distance...

    Nosework Thread

The other wild brain teaser was in buried. 16 containers, any arrangement, 1 - 4 hides, 5 minutes. Well, the judge had them scattered in the room without any rhyme or reason. Sometimes they would be in a circle or a cross or a U shape, but these were all over the place, no rows, no pattern! By...

Honestly I'm thinking Detective will be easier than Masters. LOL, probably not but the tests the judges put you through is so much on the handler end! One of those "hard, but I love/hate the challenge" things. Since completing my Excellent level, the Interior element has been the hardest for us...

Random Pet Photo of the Day - 2026

On the way home from our scent work trial we went to check out a camp site at the base of the Organ Mountain. It was about a 4 - 5 mile drive off the highway, no intentions of camping there, but thought maybe a day hike in the winter months. Pretty brutal country. Organ mountains claim to fame...

Just for fun, since there are so many experienced dobe folk here with other big strong dog history...

I think this is very true. My friend who has Reckless had 3 Rottweilers (one at the time) from the '80's to '90's. They were all super dogs, very social, but also pretty intimidating to anyone they didn't trust. But they were raised right, trained and always under control. I was intending to get...

I've been out for several days, trying to catch up now. When I first saw the dogs photo my first thought Aus Kelpie in the mix, but now to the end of the thread I don't think that belongs to terrier or Spitz group. but the physical traits are also clearly seen represented by all the ones so far...
