If I was a breeder...looking for working lines

" Icaro vom Blitzkrieger passed the Körung in Sweden with 188 points out of 200 points and also passed working/breeding tests in Sweden. He has full dentition and tested as vWD carrier. Icaro was euthanised at 7½ years of age due to his owners inability to handle him." Wow. Bet there is more to...

Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

I was sort of hoping our new owl buddies might take the hint on the striped cat...I'm going "hey, looky here!" Am I a bad man?

Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

I caught a turkey vulture snacking on a cat spine and skull freshly left behind...coyote most likely.... But yeah, feral cats, dont get between them and crazy cat ladies...🤣 The fact is feral cats are biggest predators of native endangered birds, around here...big controversy.

And I look down at Bonnie standing 15' away, head up intently looking up slope and I think to myself- "great! She is picking it up and has spotted the other one (she has in past but not always on command...so I'm patting myself on the back- y'know, "what a great trainer IAM etc...🤡" And...

Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

So, I've spent a lot of time just for fun training Bonnie on good trail manners, on and off leash, no drama fast recall to heel etc, leashed up as needed for passing hikers, runners, bikers, other dogs w/ no drama plus " tactical situational awareness": learning to avoid africanized bees...

    Leadership

Its amazing to me to read how much puppy training and socialization has changed over the years. I'm reading a lot about early sensitivity training and other buzz words on various breeder pages both dobe and other breeds... but especially intrigued by what the longest successful corporate Service...

anyone use an alternative to the Cone after neuter?

I'm sure your main vet has seen people choosing to be frugal before. You're not a bad person. Times are hard, vet costs keep going up. Dunno how neuter compares to spay but here in SoCal $1200 for basic spay was below average, 2 years ago. And the vet tech and junior vet who incorrectly...

If I was a breeder...looking for working lines

Noted and have also bookmarked the breeder reference. I'm trying to get well informed enough to discuss breeder goals, philosphy, whats in the lines so if I choose another dobe ot will be on a well informed basis. Got lucky on BYB Bonnie but like to build on that for the next. So thank you for...

Form vs Function in the working dog

Thanks @Rits on the observation about younger generation wanting to do it all, with the breeds that can do it all. I've been wondering as from time to time one reads about younger women especially taking on big goals in IGP, etc or other highly specialized jobs in the career steps to get to the...

DPCA 100 yr 2026 National Convention/2026 UDC FALL CLASSIC

I'd go but I'm not sure if I could sneak in from the catering entrance..."hey! Who is that old fat fahrt!" J/k Hoping they'll share some kewl stuff on the youtube channel and personally I'm intrigued by the Chan's mention that Penny will be doing some therapy dog stuff...in between time in the...

If I was a breeder...looking for working lines

PS: I've learned in past lives to follow the up and comers, and I especially like to see whats happening in vet science in dobes. This speaker has some interesting creds and the intro provides some threads to explore for fellow dog nerds. Dog food, etc. (Click "watch on youtube") Also an...

If I was a breeder...looking for working lines

I find this historical discussion very helpful and imho its great that DPCA platforms it. One tiny complaint, I cant find dates there on a lot of DPCAs archived articles but a little searching by outside sources gives context: "An early version of the article by Dr. Reinhard Haberzettl (titled...

Adult or Puppy food at 12 months?

Keep doing what you are doing...its all gonna payoff when his brains come in around 2.5 to 3 years...or so I read on these forums. Keeping a schedule where he has to chill out for a couple hours...We wait 60 min after meal with no exercise, to avoid GDV And a mid day nap in crate for example...

anyone use an alternative to the Cone after neuter?

I dont mean to laff at your expense...I just remember that stage. You will "get your steps in!" Sorry also I said "trust your vet" before...🧐 14 days seems way too long. Cant recall the dose or the exact med but we cut it in half at four days and stopped altogether at 6, with vet ok once it...

Form vs Function in the working dog

Thanks @Nordika Very interesting. Glad to know the origin on the extreme lines out of Serbia. Matches the cautions read elsewhere, and in re: hypertrope fashion in ghetto dogs lately. The SA lines fashion for "head down to chest" look fashion reminds me of the old chain cavesson or peanut...
