@MyBuddy I think this is an outstanding example of building desire to be in the water. There’s been members asking how to get their dog to swim. Or how to “teach” them. From my experience the most you can do is to get them to want to. There is no way of communicating how to. You just have to...
To me Remy has a very distinct head. Everything the shape, his muzzle, even his crop. There’s a lot of Dobermans that I could take a double take and think it was my dog. Going to these shows do you see any dogs that look similar to remy? He’s a good looking dog!
Stassi does this weird thing where she’s inside laying in the cool house. She wants to be let outside and then goes and lays down on the artificial turf that is hotter than the concrete. Its 110 outside mind you. She will lay there till she’s fully panting. Then comes back in and lays down...
Reading through your posts it doesn’t sound like you’re giving a correction, more of just nagging her. I’d incorporate some positive reinforcement to get her exactly where you want her. And correct her for not staying in that position.
I think she might have a chance of catching or at least keep up with one in an open field. But they are trying to evade not just run away. They will go into brushy ditches and other things to evade rather than just run straight away. But I do agree they float while running. I’ve seen my old dog...
I won’t spoil it. But they used to be really common here in the lower foothills of Central California. I’ve personally never seen one in the wild though. I’m probably 15 years to young for when they were easily found.
Coalinga Police K9 Nitro dies after being found lethargic in outside kennel
Another local K9. Sounds like it died from the heat. This always going to be a problem in my area with mandatory kenneling policies.
@Ravenbird my heeler was super social. But if I ever came out of a store and saw someone petting her. I warned them if you ever see this kind of dog in the back of another truck don’t try to pet it. Because heelers don’t display much they just bite.
He might’ve had some drive when turned on. But the training part I didn’t see. What I saw was a dog that didn’t react and didn’t get up when his owner left because he didn’t want to. He was a good dog but wasn’t because of his training.
My heeler would stay in my flatbed truck no matter what...
Definitely start on the low end of recommended feeding. It will be rich at first, you will also be blown away by the weight of the package for its size. A lot of density per volume.
As @Ravenbird said previously after what I’ve been through with my dog I can read dogs well. I know what a dog wants to do and what it doesn’t. Having said that I’m not impressed with the average dog that has good obedience. I can tell when a dog responds and complies to its handler just because...
While at work today I looked up and saw what I thought was a dog in the doorway of the shop. Soon as I saw it so did Stassi. She took off barking and charging and when it turned to run I saw that it was actually a coyote. The coyote had probably a 100ft head start. Once I actually got out of the...
I believe you’re talking about Mike Ritland and hero dog foundation. They will place apprehension dogs if they can. But I believe it’s very few. Just because the amount of people that are qualified to handle a difficult dog that has been doing live bites there entire life is rare. Most of the...
This is in my town. I’ll try to find another follow up article with additional info. But to make a long story short the handler did take the dog after he was retired. It was a few months later he was euthanized.
What exactly happened I don’t know. I’m guessing once the dog was no longer going...

But his euthanasia in January of 2024 has left many questions unanswered.

I’m not saying the dog wasn’t trained. Just that the state of mind the dog was in wasn’t far off from its genetic baseline.
You live with both dogs. Which one is “easier” to live with? The one that you have to turn on or the one that came switched on over everything from the factory?
My BIL is...
I was at the local coffe shop of our mountain cabin yesterday. We were outside on the patio waiting for our drinks. There was a younger woman with a mal waiting also. I saw she had a hermspringer prong on the dog but the rest of the equipment just looked like petsmart collar and leash...
@remy when you and him are in the pool he’s trying to get away from you and get back to the step? I would try to make the pool more fun and enticing to him. Run, scream, jump off the dock yourself. Trying going underwater while he’s looking at you. Do everything you can to make it fun and...
