European Dobermann breeders

Check out Legendaryeuropeandobermans.com.They just had a litter and the pedigree of the parents are impressive.
There may be info they haven't put on there web page but.....
I see no actual proof of health testing, just the mention of such. No mention of what they do with their dogs other then produce puppies.
When inquiring, I would ask for more then hips & Embark results for vWD, DCM .... no mention of 24 hr holter, Thyroid results, temperament test.
I couldn't find any links to pedigree to check longevity (ages & causes of death).

I'm not downing this breeder by any means. Euro isn't my cup of tea, but I think it's awesome there are ethical & responsible breeders of European Dobermans here in the states. As with anyone looking for a pup, whether it be Euro or Am..... just do your research, thoroughly.

They seem very nice and are very proud of their line. I did inquire however the price was steep at $6800 without the ear cropping. It seemed a little high as I have been researching prices for about 1 year.

Wow.... that's crazy. I understand they claim their dogs COME FROM well known Euro dogs/kennels, but are they doing anything with them? Are they members of any recognized clubs where they're trialing the dogs? (UDC) What are they putting into their breeding dogs other then minimal health testing? Do they explain what justifies the price tag?

Ha. Yeah, I had a feeling they'd be participating in this sort of overpricing trend in dogs. 6.8K? Ridiculous. This, and they won't crop? Anyway, I'm not going to go on starting to trash a breeder. Just silly.

I've been looking into other breeds, like Cane Corso, and some good breeders (that fully health test their breeding dogs, and also show in conformation) are asking 4K - 4.5K. Other Corso breeders who don't really do anything with their dogs are asking the same. Then, you've got some just wacko pricing out there. There's this one breeder who started a breed they call North American Mastiff, and I inquired. The woman did get back to me promptly, and the colors and markings they go for (yep, they prize color and markings) sell from 6 - 10 thousand dollars. I guess some people will pay it, so there ya' go.

No he didn’t say any of that or holter test b4 breeding just genetic test and he said hip test not really necessary. He did go to Europe and hand picked his dogs.

Hips are basic testing whether it be with OFA or PennHip. Yes, 2 dogs with excellent hips could potentially throw pups with failing hips. BUT they would know whether they're breeding healthy dogs.

Embark is not the only test they should be doing.

I agree. That is why the price seemed hefty. Even with great testing the highest price that I have found was $5000.

Yes. They can put whatever price they wish. For me I do have a max price that I would pay. I spoke to one person out of Kentucky who does not sell puppies but he trains them etc and his last dog went for $155,000!!! Of course trained. Prices are from I believe $35,000- ????

I am actually less floored by an astronomical price for a fully trained dog than I am for a puppy, but it's still not something I'd ever dream of spending.

I understand people are free to ask whatever price they wish, but when it is something I care about, it does trouble me. Here's why: It will lead to higher prices among all breeders. If buyers show they will pay a certain price, then of course sellers will keep asking that much, and subsequently will try asking more in the future. It reminds me of what I deal with as someone who likes to go out once a week and visit local craft breweries. Prices have been steadily, somewhat slowly, rising for years now. It's like, okay, I will not patronize those businesses who are charging the most; but one place successfully getting a higher price will cause all others to follow suit, and it never ends. What needs to happen is the people need to wake up, stand up, and draw a line. Unfortunately, when it comes to buying drinks, people are idiots.

Anyway, I'm not too worked up about it. My limit in terms of buying a pup is right around $3K. When the industry moves above that, and a good quality pup cannot be had for that price, I'll simply have to tap out. I'll either go with a not so good breeder, or just get a dog at the shelter.

I do hope you have good success in finding the pup you seek!

Hello all. I live in the UK and I plan on importing a cropped and docked Doberman from Lipar Land. Has anyone from the UK recently used Lipar Land ?

I am a first time dog owner and I am a bit afraid to import one without interacting with the puppy. Can anyone please guide me on what all questions I should ask the breeder ?

Hoo boy, a European Dobermann for your first dog? That's biting off a lot!

We've heard the name Lipar Land around here. I don't have any first hand experience with them.

You should ask a lot of questions: What health testing has been done on the parents and grandparents? What titles are in the dog's pedigree – working titles, conformation titles? Do they require that you spay/neuter the dog? If so, at what age? Tell them what you are looking for in a Dobe – high drive working dog, or the lower energy one from the litter? They may not have the exact right fit for you.

As for importing: I will have to leave that to others. I've always gotten mine in the U.S.

Welcome from the US. I have quite a few friends who have gotten a dog from Liparland and they're gorgeous dogs. I agree that it would be best to ask about health testing and longevity of the lines since the health testing isn't done as much as it is here in the US.
I know a couple of pups from one litter passed by the time they were 4 from DCM but the breeder (Vera) felt horrible and stopped breeding that particular line. The rest I know are living good healthy, long lives.
