Ear tips touching

Hey guys I have my Doberman puppy(4 1/2 Months old) now for 1 month and been posting since then. His ears were standing just after 1 night. They stand pretty good but I noticed that his ear tips are touching in the middle when he’s on alert. I used bumpers for about 7 days and they still touch.At the beginning I used a bridge for about 7 days but I found it better without it so I didn’t use it anymore as he puts his ears by himself in that position. Should I post with bumpers again or is there another technique?

They're looking good and they can sometimes touch in the center when they're young and alert.

I don't think you need the bumpers since I don't see any pockets so all it should take is more time posting.

Also i noticed that his ears are getting softer although they were hard 2 weeks ago . That’s because of teething right? I’m gonna give him some vitamin c I heard that helps. Are his ears gonna harden when teething is done?

I agree with Jan, just keep posting through teething and they should straighten up. You may see one do better than the other, or one just flop around crazy and lazy while the other one is perfectly straight.

Keep posting and use your judgement. Posting in and out 3-5 days isn’t anything that will hurt but does give you enough time to see if a correction is working, I.e- an added bumper or adding a bridge because of a weak ear base.

Yes, that’s the teething process…that’s why it’s highly recommended to post through end of teething. There are folks that say they are able to get the ears to stay straight during teething without posting but I would not chance it. You have only a limited amount of time to get the ears right and if they flop and break/crease cartilage when you should have been posting??? Uggg….just not fair to the pup.

Anyway, keep doing what you are doing until after teething and you will be good to go.

Do they touch because he has too much skin as a puppy?

In many cases they touch at this age since they don't have full control of them yet.

Mars’s ears did that as a pup. He grew into them, kinda. Always had massive ears.
