Dead ear tips?

Hello everyone my almost 5month old pup had his ears cropped at the age of 11 weeks. We let the stitches heal completely before posting via the backer rod method making sure to not tape to tightly. His ears stand up completely on their own and have never left them out of posting for more than a day. However we have noticed some discoloration on the tips and are somewhat freaking out. They are somewhat purple in color and are colder than the rest of the ears. Does anyone know if this is dead ear? I’m afraid we will have to cut off more of his ears. First time posting on here and I am on my mobile phone so sorry if the formatting is wrong in advance. Thanks

Yes we are still posting every 5-7 days till his adult teeth come in. We did massage the tips last time when we first noticed but it hasn’t looked like it helped much.

Ok I thought you were still posting. Saw a little red marks below the tips probably from the posts.

Try not to wrap the tape tight at the tips.
Have you checked with the Vet that did the crop?

I have to say its a very nice crop!!!!!

Welcome from Minnesota!

The tips look fine to me and what you're seeing is probably just a little skin irritation from the tape but nothing irregular. Cute pup and the ears are off to a great start!

We are still posting. From what I’ve read, we should keep posting till about the age of 6 months. We actually used a retired Vet that does cropping on the side still. He was recommended by our breeder. (I know this is probably frowned upon but the job is already done).

Thank you, I am impressed with the job Axwell and was actually with our pup during the whole process.

I just don’t know if I am overreacting with the dead ear thoughts.

Thank you Jan. I work in the medical field and when the end of a extremity is cold it usually means tissue death.

I am probably just overthinking it though. I will continue to massage between postings and keep the tape loose.

I just checked the tips of our dogs ears (and they thought I was nuts LOL) but they are cooler up there. I'm guessing there just isn't as much blood flow up there in ears; especially longer crops.

My pup's ears had the same color and even swelling when she had the cup on after surgery. I also noticed it did the same thing when I tried to use the Torbot's. But yes, definitely do not wrap tightly. This pic is after removing posts one day, only one I could find on my phone. So the discoloration is not as noticeable. But her ears are fine as she approaches her 1 year old bday

Hello, just wanted to see if I could get an update on how the puppies ears are? My puppies ears are doing the same thing and i’m a little concerned.
