We were watching Blue Bloods yesterday while Preacher was laying in his chair about half a sleep. There was a scene where a woman was getting mugged. Just as the guy grabbed her Preacher jumped of his chair. He lunged at the TV with a very aggressive bark. He definitely wanted to come to the ladies rescue. Anyone else have this type of behavior with their Dobie ?

My female will react to the TV, then Bogie follows her lead. It is a loud few minutes as they bark and snarl with mohawks down their neck and backs.

Yes, lol. Several occasions.
Which story ya want to hear?
The Norman Bates or The Sounds of Music? :D

I believe Ragnar thinks it’s a window. He will bark, growl and hackles up and then run to the door.

He must think we are nuts to sit around and stare out of a window.

Really want to freak him out?
Show him video of himself outside in his yard playing:D
First time we did that they both about broke themselves trying to get outside:D

Asha was just a small puppy when I played the video on my computer (someone here posted it) of a doberman watching Coyotes on a trail. Asha growled and hackled up and started barking at the computer screen. She is better about it now because I watch a lot of youtube on dog events, whether show or agility or IGP, she's finally deciding it's ok, unless the volume is on and she hears barking.

Redman can wake from a dead sleep and run thru the house, nashing his teeth, barking growling as if he thinks someone broke in. TV need not be on for this, it is why his nickname is Norman. Picasso will run and bite at other dogs on the TV, especially if we are watching IPO Nation Live or some Agility competition.
Blaze and Prada are unaffected by anything off the TV.

Tense music in a movie will wake him up and he will watch the screen. For the longest time we couldn’t watch anything with dogs barking or he’d bark but things are better now. The first few times he saw a dog on TV, he would go up to the tv to see what it was doing. Aggressive behaviour would cause him to bark but obedience routines not so much. Funny dog videos don’t bother him, neither do Doberman tantrum/talking videos - we kinda wanted him to vocalize so we watched several in the hopes that he might imitate them, but it seems he’s not a talker.

It’s so endearing that he recognizes his own videos, so whether he is barking or chasing a ball, he doesn’t react! However if a recall is done in the video while Kaiser is asleep, he will still register my hb’s voice saying “Come!” (in the video) and he will actually get up and come running in real life!

Both. I am curious now.
The Norman Bates incident was pretty similar to @C908
Woman being assaulted.
Was my first or second experience with the show, and the last.
Daisy.
From behind me as the assault started going down I heard a rumble of growl that escalated to full blown rapid bark burst, and a will to end the struggle.

TSOM, the scene where Captain Von Trap calls down all his children with various whistles, and barking out orders. Very stern.
Daisy was less than a year old.
I was out in the garage polishing some parts and both dogs were in with the kids. After dinner, dark. Kids winding down.
From out in the garage I all of the sudden hear this large, pissed off dog.
In my house!!
First thought was I had left the front door unlocked and someone walked in.
Second thought, is that my little Daisy puppy making that noise??
:eek::eek:
Blast in the house.
Both kids on the couch, laughing their asses off!
Daisy placed herself between them and “the threat” her front paws both up on the coffee table, glaring at the TV, fangs out, growling, she never really stopped barking until I told her off the table.

Told her to stop and go to her place.
As she started to lay down ol Captain started ordering kids around again.
And again, she was on her feet, rapid 5 bark burst, fangs, a serious intent on her part.

She also once laid on my lap and watched a one hour NatGeo deal on the wolves of Yellowstone.
No barking or any of that just watching, mesmerized by it all. She was always keen on recognizing “Wild” canines.

Why don't I recall a dog of yours named Redman? Did one time you say you had a Mal, would this be him?

we kinda wanted him to vocalize
LOL, you really don't know the pleasures.... Bwaahahaha.

@Gelcoater - awesome stories!

Redman is our Male doberman who will be 11 in a few months. He was retired from competition about 5-6 years ago because he is a bit unstable and doesn’t like other dogs getting in his space. I tried to correct his behavior when he was young but it is like a multiple personality disorder. His eyes glaze over and it is like he doesn’t even recognize me and tried to bite me multiple times when in that zone. I didn’t feel it was fair to him to for e him thru stressful situations, so he gets his play time and hangout time and is now much better not dealing with other dogs or competition.
The mal’s Are named Azula and Iroh.
