Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

He started off with just his head white, now the rest of his fur is white mixed with the usual grey/red coloring of a rabbit.
The snowshoe hares go white in the winter and back to grey/brown in the summer, but sounds like yours is getting whiter as the summer goes on? Weird!

certain times of the day, they will swarm around the sky and there has to be at least fifty of them!
Best mosquito/bug control ever! @Rits that's why yours come when you mow - you're stirring up all the bugs!

came across this wild turkey family
I've got wild turkeys where I live, but never have seen the family with poults! That's awesome!

Thanks for sharing all these great photos!

I took a walk through at the airport last weekend with some of the wildlife there. Granted they're not live animals but almost all of them are native to this area. I swear the place is a ghost town that time of day but of course they had to crawl out of the woodwork about the time I was doing this. LOL

Yesterday I walk into my tack room and see this guy on window screen! Oh, hell no! :cus: 20190719_074614.jpgThese are those huge horse flies! They're horrible and will sit on the horses back, just out of reach of their tail or mouth! We rarely get them. It's only at certain times of the year or maybe certain weather. I'm not sure whar brings them out. They're not like regular stable flies where they are out all the time. This is actually the first one I've seen this season. And too bad for him! He is easy prey! :machinegun:

Look at the size of them compared to my finger and a regular fly.

Nothing better than a dead fly. Large or small.

I hate these damn things! They have a huge, cutting mouth that cuts deep into the horses skin. Most times leaving a bloody spot. I can always tell when there is one out there. The horses will try and run and buck trying to evade them or get them off them. Once they attach themselves, there is no getting them off!

My girl, Cheyenne, knows that I will come running if one is out there. While the others will keep moving trying to get away from the fly, Cheyenne knows if she stands still, I will SWAT the hell out of that thing! And stomp it into the ground. All my anger going into the attack! :guns: She will swing her head to her back many times as if to say, "Mom, he's there and I can't reach him!" When she does that, I know that there is one on her or flying around her. And then it's game on! :sonic: :machinegun:

The dragonflies have been plentiful!

So have the barn swallows! I went over to the horses run-in to turn on the fan and the barn swallows were really giving me hell! The fan really picked up on audio! It's really not that loud!

This morning a pair of wedgetail eagles came swooping over Jazz while we were walking near the dry creek. They then sat up in this gum tree watching her. I think they think she might be a new calf separated from her mum and therefore good tucker! It was a worry when this happened when Jazz was small, but they are just curious it seems. Sorry the pic isn't better.IMG_20190725_081602.jpg

Wow, they would take down a calf?! Kali would be easy prey then! :bag:
Yes, people don't realise the danger when they allow their small dogs to roam out here. There are the eagles, and the Dingos will kill domestic dogs on occasion. And of course there are the cattle with new calves who will charge and trample a dog on it's own.

Florida is a freak’in zoo!
Amazing the things I see visitors do with our critters.
Feed a chicken leg to a gator to obtain a PIC ????? Nooooooooooooooo!
Walk dogs close to the edge of lakes ! Nooooooooooooooo!
Then ...we now have our Boa snakes .....whole new version of hunting for the critter catchers!
Then lets go swimming at sunrise and sunset .......Nooooooooo!
My favorite is when I watch folks line up the perfect picture of seeding a Seagull......they hold the hotdog up in the air......wham....they are swarmed by birds...usually human throws the food in the air and runs!!!
Now thats funny!!!

I just saw that on America's Funniest Videos! LOL It was pretty funny ! The lady ran into the ocean and all the seagulls followed her! Even landing on the water. It was hysterical! When I vacationed with my daughter in Panama City, it was kind of an unwritten rule not to feed the seagulls. I kind of wanted to  but I knew what the results would be! And why there was a rule.:nono:

Living in Florida I see this all the time.........the Seagulls scenerio's ......I watch the tourists.....I wait and wait......then sure enough it happens.........the bird swoops in for the free meal and scares the heck out of folks.
Yeah.......guess I am not right.........but no one really gets hurt though.............other than missing a few fries! LOL
Not sure if you noticed when visiting Florida many the the places that serve food outside .....up high....towards the roofs there is fishing line strung about...........the birds can see the fishing line......that fishing line keeps them from swooping in and dashing off with your grouper samwich....... Dang Seagulls...they are so quick !

Wow I've never heard of that but they should do it in Duluth too since so many tourists feed them and it ticks the locals off because they become such pests.

This little guy about made me jump out of my skin. I reached for the window control and touched him.... scared the crap out of me. I'm not afraid of them, but I WAS DRIVING. I figured when I got to the stop sign, I could just swish him out........ but in the meantime, he decides to jump up on the dashboard. All I could think of was....he's gonna jump at me! LOL. He jumped and I lost sight of him, but I found him down on the directional arm and stayed there. I made my husband get him out when I got home. If he had just been on my porch, I would've thought he was cute, but not staring at me from the dashboard doing 50mph.

I have to remember to take my camera when I go to the farm, it's crazy over there! Yesterday I was there picking of some veggies when some thing caught my attention. It was movement on the roof of one of the barns. I look closer and see about 20 turkey vultures just sitting there. What a sight because those are some big ole ugly birds!
I always knew we were surrounded by all kinds of wildlife over there, we see evidence all the time. Now the flood has forced them away from their usual habitat and we see them all the time. Because they are out of their element, they are at higher of getting killed which is bringing vultures around.

How 'bout it!! I Iove these guys. But any critter in my car while driving is a total distraction! :pullhair:

We usually have frogs like this on our deck. Tiny and cute and change colors like a chameleon. Once in a while they get in the house. The door left open or chased in by a dog. The other day I brought some zucchini in from the garden and my husband says, Did you bring this guy in too?? :p A frog was in the kitchen sink!

What is it about hummingbirds? I just love them!

I know! They are a special treat! We always feel honored when they visit our flowers. We plant certain baskets of flowers just for them. Like Lantana. But they go to a lot of them, including the flowering hostas! And we have a ton of those!

That had to be a cool sight with so many! We have them flying overhead on a daily basis here. But its usually only 1-3 at a time. I'll never forget building this house. We had carpenters here building the roof and they were waaaay up high and there must have been 10 of these things circling overhead! They were all pointing and chattering about it. They probably thought one of them was going to be dinner! LOL I can't remember if I ever took a video or even a picture of that. But I'll never forget it in my mind. It was so weird to see so many circling above. Like in the movies!

So then sometime in May I had something like that happen again. It wasn't as many but it was more than I've seen the while. And staying within a certain area right overhead. The sun was in my eyes but I think I got most of them.

Did you see my video with the dragonflies, @GennyB ?

Oh, and the other day the dogs were barking wildly. I always tell them, it better be the boogeyman or some really cool critter! This time it was. :D
