It was yesterday, but Rio celebrated his first birthday! There was a time not too long ago I didn’t think he would live to see this day, so I wanted to make it special.
The day before he got a toy in advance, a four foot stuffed cactus we dubbed Pedro. He adores Pedro and carries him around everywhere.
First we went out for a 3+ mile hike, or rather more of a stroll through the woods. It was a hot muggy one so we stuck to shady trails close to water.
Then we went out for lunch downtown Greenville, I had a French dip and him a chicken breast. The host counted him as a patron lol
Afterwards we walked a block to a dog boutique where I bought him an ice cream. I spoke to the owner and she knows the photographer I met at the race, she mentioned needing dog models for her upcoming catalog so we’ll see!
They must have the best freezer they make because it was hard as a rock almost the whole way home, a 40 min drive. Brinks acted disgusted by it but he eventually tried it and finished the whole cup!
Once we got home, everyone came outside to play.
Then... dinner! Seared rare burgers!
What’s a birthday without cake?! I can post the recipe if anyone’s interested but not gonna lie I tried it and it’s pretty good.
After a full day of entertaining dogs, I nearly forgot to give him the rest of his toys.
Finally, sweet sleep! All the dogs were tired with full bellies. Me too!
