My Axl has passed

I have no doubt there was no reason to ask for forgiveness. He was most likely glad he had you to speak for him and make the best decision.
A friend made me a card when I lost one of my dogs. It had this poem in it that I think help me put things in perspective.
A Parting Prayer

Dear Lord, please open your gates
and call St. Francis
to come escort this beloved companion
across the Rainbow Bridge.

Assign him to a place of honor,
for he has been a faithful servant
and has always done his best to please me.

Bless the hands that send him to you,
for they are doing so in love and compassion,
freeing him from pain and suffering.

Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss.
Help me remember the details of his life
with the love he has shown me.
And grant me the courage to honor him
by sharing those memories with others.

Let him remember me as well
and let him know that I will always love him.
And when it's my time to pass over into your paradise,
please allow him to accompany those
who will bring me home.

Thank you, Lord,
for the gift of his companionship
and for the time we've had together.

And thank you, Lord,
for granting me the strength
to give him to you now.

That is a beautiful poem. Thank you ❤️

I'm so very sorry and I had tears running down my face before I was half way through reading this. Axel seems like part of the family and many of us have been through the trials and tribulations you've been through and you've given him the best life he could possibly imagine. The choice to let them go when you know it's time is the hardest you'll ever make, but it's also the most loving and responsible thing you can do.

Please know that we're always here for support when you need it and I do hope you stick around.

Run free beautiful boy... :sorrow:

What a heart-wrenching yet sweet post. I’m so sorry you had to say goodbye to Axl, but it sounds like he lived a happy life with you. Thank goodness you’re the one he was blessed to go home with. I’m sure he was comforted by your being with him and loving on him in his last moments. Our golden had cancer and we went through much the same thing in Nov. It still hurts.
Well done good and faithful Axl. :sorrow:

Oh, no. Dear Axl! Tears are running down my face as I read your tribute! I am so sorry to hear of your loss. :( We love these dogs so! Rest in Peace, Axl!

I'm so sorry for your lose. I had to fight the tears back as I read this at work. You gave him an amazing life and I know he appreciated every bit of it.

Big hugs to you for your loss . Sorry you had to endure this heartbreak as well... Tho we feel such pain losing them, the need to love another is just as strong. I’ve been down this road many times, and each time it’s so painful. Dogs are just beautiful creatures. Thank you for your kind words. ❤️

Thank you. Jan. It was really tough to say goodbye. I wanted to cancel the vet.....he just kept looking at me....how do u do it? I wanted him to recover. I wanted him back the way he used to be . Then you realize it’s just your heart pulling....emotional hope. My heart is still breaking. Axl was definitely one of a kind

Some how I missed this post, I want to express my deepest sympathy. I share many of your same feelings as we lost our boy Blu 12/28/18. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about him. I think you will find that life seems different now but we have no choice but to move forward. Just remember there is another Dobie somewhere that needs your love.
