Rubie's Agility Career

OMG, I'm so impressed. Still exploring this whole chat forum and just found this one. I read the first couple of pages and skipped to here to just say you & your dog are rockin it! I'll have to go back and look at each and every video when I get some extra time.

Haha I've had a lot of ups and downs on this thread (currently we're on an up!). I hope you enjoy our journey

We had a pretty good practice session yesterday! She's not running at light speeds but I'd rather her be slower and more mindful than trying to break the land-speed record. Her turns were nice and tight and she's actually learning to collect (assuming I give her the right cue in time). Contacts are still iffy but if she runs like this on Saturday, the trial should be a breeze and fun! It's our first AKC trial so I really don't want to look-a-fool out there

Oh wow....

You patience and time in the gym is paying off. It is no longer her running around crazy beserk and just so happening to catch/follow your commands- she is actually purposeful and focusing on you and task the entire time. Not that Rubie was crazy beserk before but I notice a big difference in this last training session.

I am far not educated in these training matters but I think you have reached the next level. Now you need to make sure you keep the purposeful focus but then again make sure it’s fun.

This Saturday?? Good luck to you.

You two are looking great and the improvement is growing leaps and bounds! Good luck this weekend!

Practice went REALLY well last night so here's to hoping!

If we get our contacts in standard and weave poles in both standard and jumpers with weaves, it will be a good day!

We are signed up for yet another venue, UKI, June 1st. They have courses called Speedstakes where it's just jumps and tunnels. Talk about Rubie's jam! I'm really excited for that because I think she'll do wonderful without all those other things to slow her down.

Thank you for the well wishes! Really means a lot to me

We'll, what a good day!

First up was standard. Complete as numbered. I actually thought this would be our difficult run but Rubie was perfect. I messed up: after the dog walk, there had been a tunnel for all the other levels. After watching those runs for hours, I expected there to be a tunnel  and then after the table, I didn't connect with her to get her to the teeter BUT LOOK AT THOSE WEAVES!

Second up was Jumpers with weaves. This gave us a little more trouble. Rubie did her typical victory lap mid-run which was annoying (I cut it out of the video) but what actually resulted in an NQ was the knocked bar. Kind of irritating because she obviously slipped and just barreled through it. Even the judge was like "OH!"

I love how happy she is at the end!!

Look at that pretty lady

We also got to watch Rookie run who is from the same breeder as Moo but I didn't get a picture of him! And our friend Nya from class who is perfect and amazing!

:goodjob:

The first video plays perfectly for me, well done both! Great weave, Rubie! Is the second suppose to be a video, @LifeofRubie ? It’s almost like a screenshot. It won’t play :(

She’s such a pretty girl, Emily. I love seeing her work, too. Awesome job!

Running AKC was definitely interesting (not that it made any difference to Rubie). Whereas CPE is mostly about having fun and pretty straight forward courses, AKC definitely is more competitive, in terms of judging, but still a good sense of comradery. The judging is stricter in terms of what they'll call which just means I can't be the one to mess up  At least when Rubie does her victory laps (again, cut out of the JWW video), she doesn't usually take it upon herself to take any obstacles so it usually just counts as one Off Course. If I can get her back on-task and we finish, it's usually good enough. I think we would've Qed if she hadn't knocked that bar.

Here's the video of Moo's look-alike, Rookie, running the same JWW course! He knocked the first bar so they got an NQ too but lovely run otherwise!

Yes, looks like Rubie is back, seems to understand her role better to me?.?..

Hahaha, she is waiting on you...you’re just not quick enough.

Good job. This is really good to see.

I sure hope she's kinda getting into a groove! We're going big in a few weeks and signed up for 4 courses in one day; we'll use the first run as Declared Training in the Ring so we can play and set a good mood for the day.

Well... she's actually been pretty good about distance recently and should use my verbal cue to know to take the obstacle she's running toward so that I don't HAVE to be there. In the video of Rookie, his handler is actually behind him on that last sequence but she sends him with "GO" and he keeps going! The place we practice in regularly is very small so admittedly, all our distance work has been stuff I do on my own.

I like this little snippet video from running around the other day. Right toward the end when we're coming back up to head into the weaves a second time, she starts to come in but hears my "GO" and does a quick sidestep to get through the jump (right around 0:12). good girl

Had a fun little ring rental practice sesh yesterday with some of our friends from class. Rubie had had a super busy Saturday and the ring rental was for 8a so even though she's kinda just trotting along, it's a LOT more than I was expecting  We actually had another beautiful run on this same course and then did one that's nested in there with just jumps and tunnels that she handled wonderfully. She actually... looked like... she was having... FUN!

She did get 'stuck' on the bottom of the A Frame for about 15 seconds so I cut that out to keep it flowing

Big day on Saturday coming up; signed up for 4 courses! Here's where we stand with CPE right now for chart and data nerds. Like myself.

We certainly had a day! We didn't run the best ever but we were consistent! Nailed our weaves, got our contacts, no victory laps mid-run. She did get stuck at the start line and I had to get her refocused once in each run but she ran fast and accurate otherwise.

Started with a Standard. No maps left by the time I got there!

Second was colors. I was very nervous I was not going to be able to get in front of or keep up with her but her sending is getting a little better so i could ahead here and there and throw in some rear crosses to guide her from behind.

Then Snooker! We had a good opening and used a backside to keep our momentum up (CPE never uses backsides in their course designs but very useful skill). Very messy map of our route

We were signed up for a fourth run but she was running out of steam and it was getting late. I scratched us and we left on a good note.

We will start running Level 3 for Colors and Wildcard, now! We also ran uncontested so auto first place ;)
