Your thoughts (pedigree)

Because you can have a 50,60,70,80 lb lab with three legs that u pick up from the pound and it out hints a 3,000 dollar dog
Right. So it's all about results. Sounds good to me. I know there's a website called something like Just The Facts Ma'am. It keeps track of Dobermans' working titles, and that's it.

To my knowledge COD for Fedor del Nasi has never been released.

It is posted as oncology. I assume they mean cancer, not the study of.

he was one of the most prolific sires of his time.

139 litters with 680 progeny. The average life span of his pups is 6 years....not good.

So far every single dog I have brought up causes some sort of controversy. Some people praise and others hate its crazy. I feel like it’s a toss up no matter where I go

Because it is a toss up. We just don't know enough about DCM yet. I biggest concern was Fedor was he was on both sides of the pedigree you posted. With his pups having an average life span of 6 years that make me think twice.

I am thinking of getting a pup from them your thoughts on that selection. I’ve tried to research some of the dogs listed and have found multiple 10+ years of life and they did offer health guarantee.
I would not, especially if you are thinking about training with Jacki’s club.

Just went to a little seminar about DCM given by a Cardiologist from Kansas State. He studied under Dr. Calvert. Yes there are more than these two Genes. Is it a combo of certain Genes that turn on to cause DCM?

So at this time EARLY testing is a MUST! Starting at 2yrs old with an Echo and Holter!

He also said he would look for Longevity in the lines.

Yes there are 2 Genetic Tests for DCM1 (PDK4) and DCM2. Yes testing Negative for both is still no guarantee your Dobe will not or will develop DCM. BUT having them tested may help further research! More Dobes tested the better.

It would be nice if ALL breeders were required to submit DNA from every Sire and Dam. Also from every pup in a litter! Then they could be tracked. But then again Backyard Breeders will not do this. I believe at sometime it will be the end of the Dobermann Breed.

Heck Embark had some issues with some Breeders in Europe. They were DNA swabbing other breeds so dogs would show up Negative!!!!!!! So now they make sure through DNA the sample is from a Doberman.

Oh sheesh! Doesn't that pretty well put a definition to the term "Greeder?"

Really, this topic has some parallels with another topic with which you're very familiar: Guns, firearms and gun control. Always gonna be a black market, and only the law abiding are controlled by laws.

I know Don't buy from Greeters!!!!!!!!!!! But major problem for the uninformed !!!!!!
We meet a lot of people that don't know about DCM and other health issues! But I let them know!!!!!!!

This is a problem through out the entire dog world...Please see a pup, want a pup, do no research, buy a pup, and then get all emotional when their pup doesn't act like "Lassie"...Next stop is the shelter....:yatta::yatta::yatta:, I could go on all night.

Dcm test is that where they hook dog up to heart monitor and check for irregular heart beat ?
Yes, but only part of the process. Blood testing is another and other things may be ordered by the Dr. There are two genes, you don’t want your dog to have them both is all I know. You can google it if you want more info. That is why breeders who care about the breed spend there time and money testing and researching to try to produce better offspring.

Well DCM testing is a combo of an Echo, Holter and Chest X-Ray And with other Blood Tests like ProBNP. But you can get a lot of false positives with the blood tests. Which you would need more testing anyway.

For sure you don't want to see in the Gene test of DCM1 or DCM2 a Positive with 2 copies of the mutated Gene!

First, let me state this is not directed at you Stryker...just wanted to bring up a point that gets shadowed at times.
(I do understand the concern for the Breed being healthy, etc, etc)

Now, If a member has a Dobe with positive test results, through not doing your research up front or just bad luck, or rescuing, you've got to love your dog...and carry on, giving h/her love, housing, food, Vet care, etc...with Charity of heart and Hope.

I say this because it's not the end of the day..."The book isn't finish yet"... Testing positive for different genetic conditions is not a sure death sentence and besides someone needs to help these dogs while they exist...It's the reason I rescue:thumbsup2:...So, If you have a Dobe with a "condition",or are rescuing one, know that you're h/her's angel :)...and maybe it all works out.

So, While we are bettering the Breed and educating the new owners, We still need to care for less fortunate ones...;)
