Pup Size

My male pup is 12 weeks today and he is 22lbs. Does this sound right? I seem to remember my female being bigger at this age but that was almost 3 years ago.

That seems about right. Keep in mind all puppies grow differently. At 14 weeks Louie was only 16 lbs. Now at 10 months he is average at 70lbs.

Hawk was 10 wks when he arrived from Montana, and when weighed the next day at the vet's, he was 21.6 lbs . I haven't weighed him in the past month, but he is almost 8 months and right around 60-63 lbs.

They're all going to vary. Genetics, diet and activity level are the 3 major factors. If he looks good to you and your vet.... I wouldn't worry about it. He has A LOT of growing and developing to do.

That sounds right in the ball park Hoax.

Boris was only 23# when we got him at 16 weeks and now weighs 88#.

Della was 25# on Sunday at 13.5 weeks.

I thought Fire was going to be the worlds first REAL mini Doberman...the girl took forever to grow (she had parvo, so that was a BIG part of it). Anyway, I worried for nothing. At 5 months she was in the 14 pound range, at 11.5 months she is now 73+++.
They'll get as big as they're gonna get. Not much we can do but take good care of them, love them, and wait & see (kinda like w/our kids).

Wow Dobesmom - 14# at 5 months?? Poor girl must have done some fantastic recovering once she was in your care.

I was just going to show ya all how huge miss roxie is!

not the best picture but from left to right is zoo 15mo rox 6mo and chance about 12mo

Oh wow Zoo, how time flys. I can't believe how big Roxie is now from when she was just a little baby when you brought her to my house right after she got her ears cropped. She's huge. Those boys had better watch out and not mess with her, lol. All your guys are beautiful.:)

I wouldn't worry hoax23, it's like DobesMom said; they are going to grow into whatever size they are meant to be with loving care and being given the best nutrition you can afford on your part. That's all we can do. I have two, a male and a female. My male is an ox at 98 1/2 pounds. He came from some pretty good stock. My female weighs around 95 1/2 pounds and came from not so great stock. By rights she shouldn't be as big as she is. But with good food, vitamins and love they all have the potental to surpass your expectations. As long as your pup is neither too skinny or pudgy his weight is about right for his size. Keep up the good work. :)

The same to you Nogger. Your dobe pup is so cute and not a bit over or under weight.

hoax 23 also on size :) zoo in my picture the black....was the runt of his litter. when I got him he was smaller then his sisters! now he is top of standard.....some are very slow to mature.......others grow like weeds. miss rox is more euro lines and I expect her to be bigger........but I must say I had no idea she would be this big :) ha! little moose!

and i saw him lifting his leg while peeing right yet...
Holy cow, already at 12 weeks??? Boris didn't lift his leg until he was about 9 months old....
Come to think of it, our GSP was already lifting his leg at 10 or 12 weeks too, so I guess it's not out of the question.

Wow Zoo, Rox looks great and she's really growing up! :)

Well, he did it because i ignored him. he wanted me to play with him, but i was reading something, so he went to my desk and "marked" with a lifted leg.....

just happened once

LOL! That'll show you not to ignore him.... :D

Don't feel bad, I once caught Boris trying to lift his leg on me when I was down on the floor straightening up a bookshelf....

We just had a crazy vet tell us a month ago that Shanoa was done growing (at six months of age). Although I know he's nuts, it's made me totally paranoid! She's just under 50 pounds now at 7 months. That's normal for a female, right? We're trying to keep her on the slow-growth path so she doesn't develop joint issues.

Yup, I think your vet is full of it. I don't think females take as long to fully grow out as males, but she'll keep growing until she's at least a year, then probably fill out more after that.

Thankfully, it's not *our* vet. We had to visit an emergency vet a while ago (I overreacted a little, but that's ok :) ). That vet is the one full of crap - our vet is excellent.

But, yeah, she couldn't possibly be done growing at six months, is what I thought!

Heck no, she's not done growing yet. Chloe continued to grow up and out until she was two years old. She now weighs 95 1/2 pounds and stands about 26 1/2 inches tall. Shanoa is still a growing pup MeadowCat.
