What to feed My Jett

look out for gas... if i remember correctly, innova gave Karma VICIOUS gas... to bad, i did like that food too

I so agree Gail, i been there done that, tried so many different kind of foods and on the end it was PP shredded blend what is working for all of them. TOTW gez murphy, always soft mushy poop and gassy like hell, i thought i'm going to die here from that smell  so after Aesa was done with her puppy food, i started PP and voila they all do great on it. :)

I switched from TOTW at around 8 months to the PPP and he is doing great on it. Very little gas if any, so I can't blame him all the time. This is what my vet has always fed her Dobies. :)

I hope your migraine is better by today Unity.

Out of the Purina family of foods the Pro Plan is the only one I'd consider since the others are just so loaded with fillers and in many dogs or pups they can cause all sorts of allergy problems.

Bill, I've heard lots of good reports on the TOTW, so it's definitely not a bad choice at all. And LOL about the gas blame thing... :spit:

Purina ONE® beyOnd is one Im going to check into . Have you heard of or anyone tried it yet? I suppose its out now?

I figure corn makes gas. no gas release causes stomach bloat and twisting due to the stomach how its set in body. so i rather not get gas in my dog. My car yes but not my dog

Oh and my migraines normally dont last about 2 to 3 days. Its kind of a hormonal thing I deal with regularly . With a big gallon of coffee and some aspirin. Im wound up good to go. LOL http://www.purinaonebeyond.com/ My mother is one who put me on purina she goes on and on about how clean there facilities are and how they research ingredients ect. could be just marketing but oh well.

Well Im not having great success with this Innova either, so I think I will need to switch him back to Purina pro plan or try the Natures balance. Poor baby, he still gets the runs off and on. Thanks for the reply and opinion.

The one Im thinking is the one made by Dick Van Patten?? or do I have that name wrong..8 is enough guy!

Thanks for the reply and opinion. I havent heard of innova but if its meat based wont be to hard to convert her over. when you read first ingredient thats the main ingredient your getting. and if its not meat most of it is in your front yard to poop scoop

Yup, that's the one. Natural Balance is the only food Spock has been on for a long period of time and done WONDERFULLY on. We'll never switch unless something happens and they change their formulas. I don't see that happening.

Well he definitely has stinky gas, good lord!!! Not always, and he did gain some nice weight on the Innova, but again...his poops are still not solid. I do now make him fresh chicken broth once a wk. and he does get one chicken leg. One meal a day, the Innova says 4-4 3/4 cups per day, I feed him twice a day, Vet said any veggies are fine as log as no butter or salt, so he was also getting peas and carrots, not so sure that that is agreeing with him either, but I wanted to combine real food and dog food for him so he would have nummy nums . So, while he looks fantastic and is now 62 lbs, and absolutely beautiful and a happy boy, he still doesn't poop solid like I think it should be. Im also wanting to know what exactly causes the bloat, eating too fast, or eating too much at one time, I don't want anything to happen to him, so I wont even let him go out side after dinner so he doesn't run around. Also, he will not stop trying to eat tree bark, or anything else for that matter. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, sometimes I have to take the squirt bottle with me outside, so he doesn't eat grass, or daisys...etc. I am starting to wonder how hard or what is good for him, I want him to have his dog food because I feel there are things in dog foods that are essential for them, but also want him to consume good things in addition. I know they should not over due it with protein that's why I supplement when he gets his chicken leg and only give him 2 cups of food. He still has that perfect shape, but his ribs no longer show and the back bum bones are not showing either. I don't want to do him wrong, so if I have to switch him again...Its ok, I will be going to the store this wknd to read labels, this TOTW is popular and they seem to do well, but again ...if the labels are all similar then he will react that way anyway to the next, I actually wrote the ingredients down from solid gold to compare and see in what order was what in comparison to the next label.

Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks everyone..:D

That's what we did when we finally decided on Natural Balance. We printed out ingredient lists from all the foods he's ever been on and took pens to circle common ingredients. Any common ingredients because we couldn't be sure what was upsetting him what wasn't. We found almost nothing similar in Natural Balance and it seems to have worked. Good luck!

thats the problem with asking about dog foods... is all dogs react different to them and like different ones. you just have to keep trying til you find one that fits. i liked the blue buffalo one...but it kind of pricy for me a few years back, i switched to Natures Recipe, its been great, i am able to manage my two fat italians weight... everybody likes it... and the bonus is my two boys for some reason have almost stopped having seizures while on it. So its been a godsend to me. my older italians are with my dad so i am going to have him feed them the senior one, but so far, none of the flavors trip the seizures so i am super happy. and no gas to the dobes... cant beat that!

Paws are crossed for you and Jett!

If anyone really wants to study the analysis of the different foods out there, here's a real handy site to make heads or tails of it all. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/

All dogs vary and it is a bit of trial and error, but there are just certain ingredients that I won't allow in our dogs food, so we go from there. :)

Unity, it really isn't known what causes bloat for sure, but I don't think gas (either having or not having it) plays any role in it. There is a good sticky thread in the health section that covers it a bit more.

Seizures??? Im sorry...Id like to mention that Jett does that head bobbling thing, the first time after getting him from Texas I thought I was going to lose him or that he was having a Seizure. :( but then I found out about the head bobbling thing..and he doesn't have it often, anyone else's Dobes do this ?

Jan S thank you so much for the link and the response...it's like us your right trial and error, and he is worth the effort. I will find him the "one" his mommy loves him mucho. :)

Yes, Boris had the same problem and after doing a lot of research on it we found out that the cause isn't known for sure (in any dog), but I have a couple of videos and some other information in the sticky section of the Doberman Health forum.

wow, interesting another dobe has the head bobbling... i didnt mean to freak you, the seizures i was referring to are with my lil italian greyhounds, my boys (dad and son) and they actually have full blown seizures... the son is SUPER food sensitive... its to the point if i feed him anything out of the ordinary... he seems to have a 95% chance of having a seizure later that evening. poor thing, just his food and certain treats are all he gets. but least i can prevent it and not put him on meds for the rest of his life.
