New behavior at home: HOWLING

Katyusha will turn 4 soon, and for the last two weeks, very occasionally (I have heard this twice now), she has been going into a full-on wolf howl! I was able to catch the one time on security cam, and I mean it is nose pointed straight up in the air, bellowing howling, like one would expect from a wolf! Anyone else's Doberman(s) do this? It was really unexpected for me, and I don't know what is triggering the change? I appreciate it much more than her incessant barking when she senses that someone 50 feet away might intrude.

Love that howl, and she does it well. Jazz has attempted an occasional howl but it's a lame attempt! 🤪 She only does it when she hears the Dingos howling but her hearing is superb.
 
Ragnar use to post up in the far back corner of the yard and howl in the middle of the day. No rhyme no reason…no other dogs barking, no police or ambulance sirens…nothing the human ear could hear.

I loved hearing it though- sounded just like a wolf.

Post her howling here if you have a recording or ever get one! So here is the first time I ever heard Katyusha howling, and it could only have been Zastava bringing in the background singing. It wasn't Teddy, the white labradoodle of my daughter's, who i was babysitting, and the other howl just isn't Toby's voice.

 
Remy likes to howl too and for seemingly no reason lol. I’m talking laying in the crate with the door open and howling. I’ll have to see if I have a video.
 
Unfortunately I've never recoded Jazz howling. It is always a daybreak event which is why I think she is trying to answer the Dingos. She takes the stance and makes the face but what comes out is a low hoarse moan. Love the howling and it always makes me smile. Same with dreaming noises. 🥰
 
These girls are getting better at their team howl. I heard it from a different floor in the house, in person, only once. The rest of the times have been playback through cameras when I wasn't home. Well, this morning, they started in on it, with me in the same room. It is such a beautiful sound, and they work really hard and organize with each other to make it a continuous howling. Oddly, I am so glad they do this. It makes me smile, but I also can't help but laugh when they do it.
 
Yes, Dobes sometimes howl!

I have posted videos on here of Oji howling at the sound of the tornado sirens being tested,. He would also, when on a walk and an ambulance or other emergency vehicle would go by with siren on, howl directly at the vehicle, often being up on his hind legs straining against the leash.

Zephyr here? Sometimes I hear him howling for a brief session when I leave the house to go somewhere. Oh, and if I put on the song naned Man of War by the Swedish metal band Sabaton, he howls at the awesome guitar solo and in fact reacts as soon as the song starts. The song starts quietly and you can see Zeph's ears perk up and he gets a bit agitated and begins to move toward howling. :rofl: I feel like I have posted a vid of this on here.

Your girl's howl is pretty high pitched, I have to say.

Yes, in the What Song Is In Your Head At The Moment thread on July 26 (2024?) I posted a vid of it but now it says the video is "private". I logged into my youtube and I seem to be missing that video along with others. Hmm.
 
So cute! I love the head back, nose up howling!

Pepper does this in her car crate we call it - the snoopy- as much as I don’t want to encourage it, it sure is cute. I desperately try to hold my laughing in… 🤭

Oh ya! They started in the other day with me in the room, and I was crying laughing but with my back to them and silently. They only started this right around when I started this thread. My phone alerts me too with "crying baby detected in living room" and nothing could be more accurate :rofl:

I feel like they are announcing to anyone who will hear that they operate as a team, like, you mess with her and you get me too. ?
