DCF the Future and Beyond ;)

Im sure many if not most of you are already aware that "another board" Forum has been acquired by Vertical Scope. While none of that is my concern, it has been brought to my attention that there is the misconception that Vertical Scope has also purchased Doberman Chat. This is simply rumor and untrue.
Our forum is still privately owned and will stay that way. My personal guarentee to everyone right now is if i were to ever decide to sell, I would offer it up to the community that made it what it is first. ;)

Im sure some of the community has noticed my absence from the board lately. This is no more then a spare time issue. Im currently in the process of building a new Technical/Webmasters forum, witch i hope in the years to come will also benefit this forum in the long run. But with that my time here has been severely limited lately. Due to this it is true that Doberman Chat has been going through our own shift in management. JanS has been named as the lead administrator and my duties have been reduced to a purely technical aspect. I will continue to keep our forum running as smooth as possable. And as always if there are any problems with the forum please please post them in as much detail as you can in the appropriate forum. This is much more productive for me rather then answering the same PM's over and over.

On a similar note id also like to take the opportunity to announce that around the beginning of the new year we will be launching what ive dubbed DC 3.0 ;) Ive been planning this for several months now, And i am already working on beefing up the forum with more features then we already have. These improvements will all be built inside of a complete website while lightening the load on the forum itself. All this means in plain english is that in a few short months our forum will be like greased lightning. as in faster then ever. there wont be any need for lean styles or any other band aids.
Ads will also be moved to the website itself and almost completely removed from the forum. (i cant make that a promise just yet) But i am working on a practical solution for ads. Of course im not speaking of sponsors or affiliates. these will remain as its our primary means of revenue required to keep the site operational.

Regards,
Von Doom.

Vertical Scopes Acquisition of "another board"

I also figured since we are currently working on the new Website and will be redesigning how the forum functions. now is as good a time as any to start taking members input. and feedback. Im currently using two sepretate domains to build and test future implementation of the new Site. Our forum will look and feel pretty much the same as it does now. with the exception of any non essential modifications. most of these will be moved to the website, unless they are directly tied to the forum software. ie: the post thanks mod. and the post bit details. (post counts, awards etc) Other things like the Arcade and directory's (links, Members map, Bsl and Rescue directory's will also be moved.) to decrease the load on the forum software. Witch in the end will ensure that we run a speedy and bug free forum.

I also wanted to point out that im not making any of these changes for fun. actually the opposite is true. These Changes are necessary to insure that the forum runs as smooth as possible for many years to come.

Von you said you were taking members input, I don't know i f this is where we are to post it, but I wanted to ask with the changes you are working on would it ever be possible to just paste pictures directly in our posts or albums instead of codes and/or photo bucket??

Well let me see whats available, you can already do this to some degree inside of posts with pictures already on the net, but dont think its possible to do from pictures inside your own computer.

Von I was wondering because My Daughter was home and wondering why I was moving pics to photo bucket and then onto the forum, cause she said she just pastes directly onto her facebook???

I will definitely keep a list of all requests and see what we can do.

Bree, I just asked my daughter and she says she uploads the pic to facebook...I'm thinking it's the same as us uploading a pic here....it comes on here as an attachment? Right Von?

Mb I know a girl at work that uses the photo bucket route for face book too, but my daughter said she just pastes. We are going to her house tommorrow, and I will have her do it in front of me to make sure that I am not misunderstanding her.

Congrats Von and thank you for all of your hard work. DCF is an invaluable resource for the novice and experienced dober fan! GREAT WORK MAN!!! Keep it up!

We all know its almost impossible to provide enough webspace for people to post their photos directly from PC to website domain but it would be great if at least size of photos uploaded to members albums increased...at the moment album photos seem to be very limited in size.

The reason is,one needs unlimited amount of webspace to be able to accomodate all the photos members will be uploading there..
webspace = money
too much webspace = too much money

Thanks ....so I guess this limits it a bit, huh? I can see that.

Well MB I went to my daughters yesterday, and she does paste her pics on facebook like she told me, BUT after uploading them!! Silly girl just couldn't understand the photobucket thing I guess. Anyway, with facebook thier pictures come back up bigger than our album pictures do, so if our album pictures could be bigger would be nice!

BM, we could raise the auto resize limit a little, but right now it's at the standard 640 that most places use. Even though the board automatically resizes pics, you can always click on the pic to view them full sized - if they were uploaded bigger than 640.

Without the limits on them it takes forever for pages to load with huge files and in some cases they're so huge that you have to scroll side to side to see them, so it really is a nice feature. :)

Thanks Jan, I thought the pics had to be made samll bfore uploading them, but you know me  I do have a time with pictures. :banghead:

Yea, I like the way it is...going from side to side with some of the large ones was a pain. If mine did that I didn't even know how to correct it, so this is good.:)

What happens to our chatbox on top, now i can' talk anymore to you guys????
its gone since last night
Von where did it go?????:(

Album pictures are actually really small. although its set to 600px X 600px i will play with it to get it straightned out.

Chatbox is a mystery. i may uninstall and reinstall it to see if that solves everyones problems.
