My baby has Parvo

Glad your pup is doing better :)
Did your vet explain the time peroid that your dog will shed the parvo virus and be contagious to other dogs? If not please ask him about it. I know you would not want to expose someone elses pup to it.

I am so happy for you!!!!!!! what a relief!! As a fellow puppy owner I am scared as hell of little Zulu getting it here in the rotten apple. Luckily most residents in my neighborhood seem to be pretty fanatical about their dogs and all seem totally taken care of but you never know. Alot of dogshit on those sidewalks....

So glad to hear all is well! I never even knew parvo was treatable, any puppy I have ever heard of having it has died. What is the survival rate of parvo? Anyone know?

I am so happy to see another survivor!! My girls had parvo at 12 weeks. They were in ICU for about 8 days total (each). Each had a day where the vet suggested we might consider "our other options" (PTS). I was told 20% chance. Dobe's are SUPER susceptible (sp?)...and are hit HARD by this lousy disease. My "breeder" never gave my girls shots , either. At least she never bothered to provide proof.
It affected my Hope permanently so that 3 months after recovery she went into renal failure & passed away in 6 short days. At least the vet believes that is why it happened.

I am glad to hear your baby made it, like mine did. It was a HORRIBLE experience to see a 16 week doberman weigh 5 pounds & 8 pounds!!!!!! And to have them handed to you & you're told...''take good care of them''!!
Here's what Fire looked like the day she came home:

And at Christmas just 3 months later...a month before Hope passed away:

Linx Linx, I'm so glad to hear he's doing better and looking so good. :) What a cute little guy.

My gosh DobesMom, that top pic is just shocking.... Poor little thing. There's a breeder that I hope isn't in business anymore.

She's a crappy scumb-sucking BYB out of Clarksville, TN. She's so good at lying she actually convinced her local humane society she was a rescuer & got them to give her animals. She then breeds & sells them. I have done what I can from here by postng all over the internet about her where she places her puppy ads, contacted her local animal control & the TN police. We wanted to sue & we had a GREAT case...but we were told she'd likely never pay it. So, we dropped the ball on that. The animal control folks swing by her property regularly hoping to find something they can use against her...but she keeps the puppy mill elsewhere than the address I have!

AVOID:
Voodoo Kennels out of TN
Cheri Apker (Likely a false name), Judy Apker, others
Breeds MANY different breeds. Her & 4 othe people run the scam.
:nono:

Many of you are great but sometimes breeders without a care is only interested in the almight buck. It is people that are out for the money and skip all but the check.....at the expense of the puppies that costs us all in the long run. It's sick!

i caught mine early but the vet here told me he has had a 80% turn out with pups with parvo so i was very hopfull

My pups were hospitalized & on IV fluids within 3 hours of the very first symptom. I was told most dogs have an 80% survival rate...but Dobes are MUCH lower due to vWD complications (due to the fact that it causes intestional lining bleeding/shedding & affects he bone marrow). I would suspect affected dogs are the ones more likely to succumb.

We really have living miracles. Thanks to us being diligent owners, fast moving vets & a guardian angels looking out for our babies.:SwinginStar:

I think we all agree with that, but I don't think you'll find a single breeder like that on this board.

I had a pup had parvo and I couldn't afford to keep him in vets office. Vet put shunt in so I could give him fluids at home-got bags of saline solution and hung them, cleaned with clorox everytime he pooped, used childrens pedialite? to help with fluids shot down throat with baster. He survived!!! Kept him in room with papers to keep clean. You can fight this but it takes work! Good luck.

That' awesome that you had a vet willing to help you help your pet...even though you couldn't afford hospitalization. I am SO HAPPY to hear you have a survivor too. :)

BTW- I just heard Oprah's puppy passed awaty from parvo. Goes to show how bad it is...I am sure she spared no expense in her pet's care...yet he lost the battle.
I hate this virus!

I bleached EVERYTHING in our house & yard so many times. As extra insurance for the new puppy I bought parvaid & have been giving it to her until she can go to the vet for her 3rd in the series of 5-in-1. She has bronchitis right now & I am giving her Clavamox, so I have to wait another week for the shot.
