Preacher update.

Just wanted to say hello, haven't been on in a while. Preacher is doing pretty well and survived the summer with no issues. He takes 3 1/2 generic Zyrtec every morning and that seems to work well for him. His only skin issues are a few dry callus spots on his ankles and elbows. We contribute those to laying on hard surfaces.

Was wondering about you today and wishing y’all well.

Haven’t heard from you in awhile, nice to hear all is well.

Has he calmed down at all? No more crazy bull?

I was also wondering how you were getting on. Some one else posted about having terrible allergy troubles with their Dobe and brought you to mind. So glad you seem to have it controlled now and can get on with enjoying life, both you and Preacher! Good to hear. :)

Nice to hear from you! Even better to hear Preacher is doing so well. But we have to have some pics!
This picture was taken last month when we were in Bonneville, Mo. We walked around the downtown area and Preacher was treated like a celebrity. This picture was taken inside a shop called The Lucky Dog, the shop owner did a little photo shoot.

Preacher is still a lot to handle, we thought he was starting to settle down but that seemed to only be temporary. Some of our on going issues are his manners in the car and house. He also does not like bicycles or small children. When we encounter other dogs sometimes he does nothing and other times he gets fired up. We were hoping by now he would be better with our indoor cats but he still can't be trusted. If he is in his kennel they can walk right up and he does nothing. If he is out of his kennel I feel certain he would chase them if he was off leash. I don't think he wants to hurt them, I think he wants to play but he's to big and rough. Preacher looks good and is well behaved around strangers. I can't tell you how many times people say "he is so well behaved and calm." If they only knew he is a Bull, we think his name should have been Bull. Another issue we can't seem to correct is his roughness with my wife. She sits on the love seat and he lays beside her. Almost every night he will reach over and nip her on the arm. He seems to want to rough house with her. She is trying to correct him but if he doesn't stop he ends up in his kennel for a time out. I also have an e collar but my wife really doesn't like it. We were also wondering if we got him neutered would that settle him down any ? He will be 20 months old in a few days. We have never waited this long to get any of our other dogs fixed. The problem is I can't find a vet that I trust. We read where Ragner has really settled down and we are happy for you. Hopefully we will get to that point some day.

Here are several pictures taken this summer.

Just came across these pictures that were taken right before we got Preacher. He is the one in blue.

Ragnar was neutered at 20months.

I don’t know if it was all the discipline training that finally kicked in or the neuter but he did calm down. To be honest, I think it was both. He seems to understand more and not have that crazy wild lust of teenagers.

I know exactly what you mean when you say Preacher is a Bull. That’s the way I explain Ragnar when people want to know about his demeanor- just an all out Bull. No regard for doors, chairs, tables, walls- full speed and you better not let him hit you at full speed. Yes, he does not show this all the time like he used too but it’s still in him.

I can tell you that when he gets crazy and I put the lock down on him hard/fast, he gets it and cuts out his asshat antics. I really don’t like to do that but that’s prob why he does it in the first place, he tries to push those boundaries.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Haha! They are such good actors in public. I have heard the same thing. “He’s so calm.” I always smile and nod because I know no one has the time to hear about all the things that I could complain about

Ahhh...the big public behavior lie. These Dobermans are the ultimate actors and con artists. In public they have everyone convinced that they are the epitome of perfection with manners and proudly absorb all the admiration of the unsuspecting public.
You leave feeling puffed up with pride with how well they displayed themselves while out and congratulate yourself on all your hard work training them.
Then the hammer paws drop once home and quickly they become a whirling dervish. All training left at the doorstep, leaving you wondering what the hell happened.

With mine I will say they behave really well when they are not together. Together they are masters at scheming and wild behavior.
Remove one from the equation and they are perfect...well almost. :D

Both have a high prey drive but Bacall is not one to want to kill anything unless it’s a rat. Bogie on the other hand is wide open chasing and capturing prey, (iguanas and rats) proudly carrying it around like a victory lap for all to see.

Our cat instigates most of the “Bull in China Shop” chase scenes as he goes out of his way to walk right in front of them to elicit drama, then will run to get them going.
Tater knows the twins won’t hurt him and also knows I will give a correction if it gets crazy. He is a smug instigator, manipulator, perpetrator and agitator. That’s how he got the name ‘Tater’.

Absolutely me!!

You described that perfectly.
