Hey all, our 11 week old boy just had his ears cropped yesterday. He doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort but his right ear seems to be oozing a bit. Is this normal? I am not sure if it is trying to scab, if I am overthinking it, or if it is an issue. First picture is the oozing ear and the other is the (what seems to be) trouble free ear. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Great to see a Dobe up in a nice post-crop setup! I mean, I've not found the Elizabethan Collar to be necessary, but aside from that – awesome!

Ok great! Here are 2 more pictures just because I am a little paranoid and would feel terrible if he went through something I can avoid. Plus a picture of him with his floppy ears!

And yes the vet went really into depth on what she would do with the cup and matched a lot of what my research on this forum has shown. Very happy with our experience with her so far.

Aww, so cute sleeping there! I like her face. The paw looks huge, but I know sometimes cel phone cameras make things that are closer to the lens look larger than they are.

That closeup of the ear lets me see the color of the discharge more than what I looked at last night. Can someone else chime in on this?

I have been surprised in the past with my Dobes how much gunk there is on the incision lines as they heal up, but I do have a question regarding that clearish discharge. I bet it's fine. Again, I have been surprised by all the stuff that you see on healing ears.

Yes his paws are huge! Compared to other dogs the same age on here he seems to be a bit more flabby too so I am thinking he’s going to be huge soon! He’s already gained around 3 lbs in a week and a half.

Here is a pic from this morning, it almost like it was scabbing up overnight, though there is some dried fluid outside his ear and a little inside too. is vet opens at 7:30 and I will likely call them then but there are so many knowledgeable people here that I’d love to get all the opinions and advice I can get.

My guys ear was pretty scabby and he even scratched it and it was a blood bath as well. So it overall looked pretty rough with the scabs and redness but if there is no smell or puss discharge I think it’s healing fine

Did they give you an Panalog or Dermalone ointment?

I didn’t receive ointment, they did give me Simplicef as the antibiotic as well as Rimadyl as an anti inflammatory. We bought some Dermoplast to help with the itching (I saw it recommended on a thread here) but besides that we have not applied anything directly to his ears.

Sutures are out, everything is healed perfectly except for one spot on the bottom of his ear but it is exposed with his posts. Not infected or anything but healing a little slow. Vet has a lot of experience with Dobermans and posted his ears this time and showed us the ropes. She did not put on a bridge, do you guys think he needs one? One ear is up and the other is a little tippy.

He looks great! I would definitely learn to post the ears yourself and you can use a lot less tape too. It's a great bonding experience with them for sure.

Our vet actually did a demo for us and we are planning on posting ourselves. We’ve already posted once but during one of his somersaults he pulled one out. Our rod comes in today so we will repost ASAP but his ear is totally up and has been for around a half hour. He moves it around and lays it back but when alert can totally lift it. Medium crop. Here are a couple update pics!

Thank you! His ear is a little red inside is that considered normal? It smells but not like infection, more like dog ear that hasn’t breathed haha.
We used 2 vets, this vet was not able to crop it (family trip planned) but is great. She has been cropping and posting for a long time and hasn’t been great. She helped show us how to post him and is there for us if we need help with the aftercare. We had him cropped in Milwaukee Oregon @ Southgate. They did a great job and the vet there seemed quite experienced. We went with a medium shoe crop (artistic medium crop is I believe what she called it) and I love the result. Shouldn’t be too bad as far as posting goes but looks very nice IMO

A little red should be completely normal as long as it's not irritated.

Ears are looking good, he plays a ton with his brother so he’s rather hard on his posts and one popped out. This was before cleaning and reposting. Seems like one is leaning in a bit, added pictures of the backs of his ears, does everyone think they are ok? Or pocketing a bit too much? Thanks!

They look fine to me and I don't see any sign of a pocket there.

just keep at it and be consistent with posting, they look great so far, but it does take time for the muscles to build. We had a bit of a saga with our Seilah's left ear, and then she developed an allergy to the tape which was rough. We found a non-latex tape annd used skin adhesive to supplement after that. Her's are looking pretty good at 9 months, but still working on the left one which can get a little tippy (in my opinion) Pics are from around April and June I believe

So my wife took this pic and thought some of you would like to see, our Manchester Terrier Wesley and Winston together. Posts only last around 4 days with our boys playing all the time but his ears are standing great when the posts are out and no issues so far! Our vet says he should be ok to let out of posts in a couple weeks since his crop is more of a medium (would be 4 months old) and then we can repost if we see any sagging but I’m not sure. He is a great boy and loves being posted so I don’t mind going longer but it would be nice to let him have them out. He can control them and swivels and tucks them down as he pleases currently.

Love the medium trims - very pretty. Winston is a cute pup! @Nightwalker59 is that also called medium? I love the curve of it, wonder if it has a name?
