Hello everyone,

I just adopted a puppy from foster care. They do not have much info on the puppy, other than what the vet said.

The vet the foster care uses said she looks like a Rottweiler/Lab mix. So we went with that.

Skip to a week later, our vet personally has a Doberman, and has had them for 25 years. And she says that shes about 95% sure shes a Dobie.

What do you guys think?

If this is in the wrong section I apologize. Just really looking forward to some responses!

Thank you!20190521_194642.jpg IMG_3290.jpg FullSizeR(2).jpg

Beautiful pup.

Just by look I’d say you got some dobe and lab in there, labrotties are typically bulkier, even as pup.
Thank you! I have seen so many Doberman puppy videos and pictures online. And in every litter I point out one that looks just like her. Very confusing, LOL.

Going to order the DNA test to put my thoughts to rest on it finally.

Lovely looking pup! I guess you might get a bit of an idea whether there is Doberman in her ancestry by her behaviour as she grows up. It seems pretty clear that any Dobie blood at all results in some fairly unique character traits! Be interesting to see those DNA results too.

Anything I should look out for? Shes very observant and calm. Which is another thing I have read about being common.

She’s a sweet pup and I’m also looking forward to her DNA results.

We had a dobe/Lab mix many years ago. Not sure if that’s the mix of your girl, but you never know.

I definitely see lab in your puppy for sure. Same face structure as my old Lab I used to have. I love Labs, big clumsy dogs. Knocked over my christmas tree just walking around the living room, good times hahaha.

And that cardboard box bed is borderline genius. I have replaced her bed 2x due to her going potty on hers.

If you have a calm pup you are very lucky, most are more on the hyper energetic end of the scale! You will get a very good idea of Doberman traits as you read different threads. One thing that I think is unique to the Doberman is the tooth clacking and if your dog ever answers back and goes clack, clack, clack with the teeth then I think you have a Dobe mix for sure! :woot2:

Lol well I will see if she does that. She definitely curls her mouth around her nose like a Doberman when she play bites my 75lb Boxer. Lol

Welcome! Bailey's so cute!

The first pic had me saying, that's more Rottie looking, but the second pic looks more like a Dobe.

She's got some length to her fur that is not typical for Dobermans, and is more typical for Rotts.

That said, she could be Dobe mixed with something else like Lab as your rescue place suggested.

I very much look forward to seeing the results of the DNA test. I feel that the Labrador Retriever gets cited whenever one is trying to figure out what's mixed in with a dog, and it's medium/large sized and especially when it's black.

Thank you! I appreciate your insight. I am beginning to think she could possibly be a Doberweiler as well. I found this picture online, and it highly resembles her. Time will tell!
