I am a new doberman owner and am wondering if I should continue with posting? The vet said he thought posting was no longer needed but I feel they're still floppy when not at attention and am not sure if that's how they're supposed to look when not at attention..

I have no experience with posting but will ask the question that people will need to know to give an informed opinion. How old is your pup? Beautiful dog, and welcome from Australia. :ntmy:

How old is the dog? That looks like a long crop. A lot of people who have long crops have had to post to 12 months of age or older.

I’d continue posting.

Hi there!

You likely should keep posting longer than five months. You should post until all his adult teeth are in. Even at that point, assess things objectively and make a decision.

What I see in your pictures is that when the ears are down, they are being held down – similar to the "airplane ears" position; but it does not look (in that pic, anyway), like ears that are flopped.

But better to play it safe than to lose progress. I know we want to stop posting as soon as possible, as it gets old! I know I'm that way at least. What's more, with my Dobes thus far, I have run into some troubles as time went on in terms of irritation that made it even more troublesome; so being done posting was so tantalizing. With Oji, here, it worked out that as I was having trouble with irritation down in the ears which was resulting in a clear moisture buildup, I stopped posting and thank God it turned out he was good to go.

They look good but five months is still kinda early. I would keep posting just in case.

Welcome from Wisconsin! With a long show crop it is safer to post longer. Some people have posted up to 18 months. I would definitely post at least 10 months. You have a beautiful pup!

These are his ears while sleeping.. should they stand straight up at all times or is this normal?

Are you sure he’s asleep? That looks like normal ‘airplane’ ears that they give when they are in a sweet or relaxed mood. Mine sleeps with his ears alert, but he also sleeps with one eye open haha.

I would definitely keep posting, even though they're off to a good start. This is the age where a lot of people think they're done, then they'll flop with everything going into teething so you lose a ton of progress. Better safe than sorry after all of your hard work.

Oh yes, the airplane ears. This is Albert every night when we're heading for bed. :D
