Heavy Shedding

I have a friend with a 2 year old female doberman and she's going crazy with all the shedding. I have never experienced heavy shedding with our dobermans so I have no advice for her, that's where you all come in!

She said they end up sweeping or vacuuming twice a day because it is so much. They have tried coconut oil, krill oil, and I think even changing to a better food but it's not slowing down. Any suggestions? I'll attach a photo of their girl as well as a pile of hair from just one day of sweeping for reference.

That reminds me of what Oji can easily shed when stressed. I notice it when he has been stressed in his crate. It builds up around/in the crate.

That's probably not the case with your friend's Dobe though, as she would likely notice the stress.

Hmm. I don't know.

Ugh the shedding

Keep going with the oil supplements.

Turn up the humidifier on the furnace.

Brush the dog daily - in good weather I do this outside to spare myself a few extra hairs.

Buy a stick vacuum for better clean up - Best Pet Vacuum EVER!!!

Learn to accept it. We have a saying whenever we find his hair in an unexpected spot - Kaiser hair is everywhere.

What food are they feeding?
Seems like a lot of hair. Looks like a very Dry nose? She have any thinning or bald spots? Maybe a skin scraping test to rule out a skin condition? Any itching scratching?
Also a Full Thyroid Panel done? Could come down to a hereditary trait.

They can shed during different seasons, health issues and dietary issues can all lead to hair loss and poor coat.

Grooming look for an Organic shampoo with a conditioner. There are lots of harsh ingredients in some shampoos. Don't use human products on pets. Also if too many baths are given it will take out the natural oils in the skin.

It rhymes, Kaiser's Mom!

Yes, Doberman hair has a way of winding up in the oddest places.

Really, though, I haven't found Dobe hair to be excessive around the various houses and apartments I've shared with one. They are one of the easiest breeds to own in this regard.

I once found a Kaiser hair in a large container of yogurt. Like how? Haha. It's such an adjustment with a dog. I used to get grossed out seeing the fur where the cat snoozes on the sofa. I put a blanket there and problem solved. With a Dober donkey his fur even travels up the stairs where he never goes!

I would schedule a Vet check to rule out any medical issues. If everything checks out I wouldn't worry too much. Some dogs just shed more than others. I know my female sheds much more than any dobe I have ever had. I control where the hair ends up by brushing her daily.
